#1: [HUMOR] - Surprises in the "Star Trek: Enterprise" Series Finale

Posted on 2005-05-13 18:23:23 by Stan Jensen

Soon we'll be seeing the end of the latest incarnation of the Star
Trek franchise, "Enterprise."

Surprises in the "Star Trek: Enterprise" Series Finale

10> Captain Archer, failing to sustain the interest of either Hoshi or
T'Pol, gives in to Dr. Phlox's incessant begging and decides to
explore his "dark side."

9> Special guest star R2-D2 as the plucky, lovable Photon Torpedo Mark
I.

8> It was all a holodeck adventure! Wouldn't that be great? I bet the
fans would just love that idea!

7> They finally perfect transporter technology, and T'Pol materializes
naked.

6> Hoshi like totally breaks her alliance with Tripp at Tribal
Council.

5> Gene Roddenberry stops spinning.

4> Sam Beckett Leaps out of the trekkie he Leaped into and realizes it
was all just a dream.

3> Someone utters the phrase "Lasers and phasers and Tazers, oh my!"

2> T'Pol retires to live happily ever after with Porthos, Captain
Archer's beagle.

and the Number 1 Surprise in the "Star Trek: Enterprise" Series
Finale...

1> The ship's engineer is replicated thousands of times in a freak
accident in "The Trouble With Tripples."

It seems to me that if we were to dig up Gene, Douglas Adams,
Robert Heinlein, and Issac Asimov and stick a turbine down
each of their throats, then put on simultaneous showings of
Voyager, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Starship Troopers,
and I, Robot - why, we could solve the world's energy problems
at a stroke!

The primary advantage of the Roddenberry drive is that it's variable speed-
DS9 for low power output, rising through Voyager to full power with
Enterprise.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Gene shot into space or something. Be
awfully hard to dig him up. Since there is no 'up' or 'down' in space, would
it really be fair to say he is spinning in his grave?

Also, seeing as how Douglas Adams wrote the screenplay for Hitchhikers
Guide, I bet he would be OK with it.

Just think how much everyone would like Trek if Roddenberry had more of a
creative authority on it, they all could have been like the first season of
TNG.

:) Or, as a consultant, the upwards moving second or especially third...

Apparently you're not a fan of Gene's stories. I can understand that :)
But look what happens when Gene is not there to creatively work on the
formation of the show - as Paramount themselves admitted to, it seems only
Gene truly understands what makes Star Trek "Star Trek". Paramount kept
Gene on the books, involved with Trek, for all those years even though they
weren't exactly thrilled with him because they (thought / realized /
believed) that no other person had the Trek "magic".

Turns out, they were 1000% correct.

And that's a truly sad revelation.

That's because the 'inspiration' for DS9 was Paramount getting a glimpse
of the Babylon 5 series bible almost a year before B5 went into
production. Had Roddenberry been alive, DS9 might not have ever made it
to air to begin with - ironic, since it was probably the best written
series in the Trek franchise.

> >
>
> The Next Generation was much better in every way... by far!

TNG's first season rocked, but after that, things started to get old fast.
They did throw in a few interesting twists and turns here and there but you
could constantly be reassured of one thing: At the end of every episode
things would return to the status quo. TOS and VOY followed that basic rule
as well. I'm not saying it was a bad thing, just a done thing. DS9 did it
for the first two seasons, and the first two seasons sucked. The rule
obviously wasn't compatable with DS9. So they decided it didn't have to
apply to every episode.
TNG definitly had more of a creative flair, but given the nature of that
show was to seek out and discover, it was necessary. DS9 dealt with
character issues and political landscapes. With VOY they went back to a more
TNG style of show, and suffered for it(although VOY did have some of the
better 2 part story ideas). With ENT they tried both, and while many fans
including myself enjoyed the result, it seems to have been a failure
Its hard to compare a vastly character driven show(DS9) with a hugely plot
driven show(TNG). Both were good.

You can look at his shorts all you want...season 1 also had that hot red
head chick in the short skirt that was always loitering around engineering.

>
>
>
>
>
>
>
>
>
>
>
>
