Summer release. Hmm, be interesting if it's genuine.

If CR underperforms, I doubt Bond 22 will get a summer release.
Wouldn't make financial sense. Best to wait until CR's box office comes
in before determining Bond 22's release date.

--- If true, then this six-month interval between Bonds is
unprecedented. Simply unprecedented! Clearly, EON has come down with
unprecedented fever. Barb is really going out on a limb with this guy
Danny, that's for sure. The infatuation knows no rational bounds.
Which makes me wonder again as to who really is calling all the 007
shots, hmmmm??? Certainly not Sony, perish the thought!

The article states 2008, not 2007 - ie 18 months rather than 6.

And if Craig flops (which is possible), Eon and Sony will rue the day
they released this news:

Columbia Pictures and MGM Announce May 2, 2008 Release Date for 22nd
James Bond Adventure Starring Daniel Craig

CULVER CITY, Calif., July 20 /PRNewswire/ -- It was announced today
by
producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer
Inc.
and Sony Pictures Entertainment, that the 22nd James Bond adventure
will be
released by Columbia Pictures on May 2, 2008 with Daniel Craig
reprising
the role of the legendary British secret agent.
The story for the latest James Bond film produced by the franchise
holders, EON Productions has yet to be announced.
"As we wrap production on CASINO ROYALE we couldn't be more excited
about the direction the franchise is heading with Daniel Craig. Daniel
has
taken the origins of Ian Fleming's James Bond portraying, with
emotional
complexity, a darker and edgier 007," said Wilson and Broccoli.
ABOUT EON PRODUCTIONS
EON Productions is owned by the Broccoli family and is the most
successful film series in history. The most recent adventure, DIE
ANOTHER
DAY (2002), was also the highest grossing film in the franchise
bringing in
almost $430 million in worldwide box office receipts. THE WORLD IS NOT
ENOUGH (1999) grossed $353 million, TOMORROW NEVER DIES released in
1997,
grossed more than $340 million around the world and GOLDENEYE, took in
$345
million.
The enduring film franchise created by the late producer, Albert R.
(Cubby) Broccoli, was launched in 1962 with DR. NO starring Sean
Connery,
who went on to play James Bond in FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE, GOLDFINGER,
THUNDERBALL, YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE and DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER. George
Lazenby
had one outing as 007, in ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE, before Roger
Moore took over the role in LIVE AND LET DIE, THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN
GUN,
THE SPY WHO LOVED ME, MOONRAKER, FOR YOUR EYES ONLY, OCTOPUSSY and A
VIEW
TO A KILL. Timothy Dalton later inherited the role and played the famed
spy
in THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS and LICENCE TO KILL. The most recent James Bond
was
Pierce Brosnan, who starred in the global blockbusters GOLDENEYE,
TOMORROW
NEVER DIES, THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH and DIE ANOTHER DAY.

2007, Craig or no Craig. What the hell are they thinking!? It's a

maybe CR might yet see a delayed release to February 2007 as I earlier

--- Yeah, well, here's some food for thought. The fall/winter period
is usually when the more serious movies are rolled out and the
spring/summer period is for the frivolous stuff. Since CR is purported
to be serious, does that mean the May release for the next one implies
it'll be back to frivolity for Bond?

It's just a public relations exercise. Eon didn't announce Pierce
Brosnan's second Bond film release date while Goldeneye was still in
production. See what I mean?

It's just Eon and Sony going on a bit of a media offensive in an
attempt to 'validate' their casting of Craig. You don't need to work in
movie marketing to figure that out!

And if Craig flops and Sony have to remove him, this announcement will
turn out to be a big marketing mistake. Time will tell if Craig is a
success or not. Bond 22's release date and production schedule is
subject to Craig and Casino Royale being a success - and the definition
of 'success' has to be a box office and dvd revenue comparable to
Brosnan's recent Bond films (inflation adjusted). Anything less than
that would make it financially unwise to make a second Craig Bond.

I can't see any reason for them not to go ahead with Bond 22, even if CR
doesn't perform as well as the Brosnan Bonds, unless of course it does
really, really badly, which I honestly can't see happening.

If the back to basics, less gadgets etc... approach doesn't work, I'm
sure they could go ahead with the tried and trusted formula we've seen
for years, after all whatever us die-hard Bond fans thought of it DAD
(personally I liked it, apart from the dodgy CGI) performed very well at
the box office. Bond is far too big a cash-cow for them to just ditch it
all together.
