Oh, hell, yes - and if CR begs the question of what happens next, it's
even more of an inducement to get excited about and interested in the
upcoming film.

that hasn't even begun yet and who knows if you'll even like the one
that hasn't been finished yet. You sure you guys aren't twins? In the
meantime, digest the script and review properly - am looking forward to

HA!

Are you so sure he'll get that far?

CR06 might stink up so bad that EON will pay off DC and that'll be that.

Yes, I preferred the optimism engendered by, "The End of (insert current
title here) But James Bond Will Return in (title of planned next film
here)". It's not as if Eon are in any way obliged to stick to the proposed
titles (see Goldfinger, Thunderball, The Spy Who Loved Me and Octopussy).
It's especially fitting for Casino Royale as it's the first time since The
Living Daylights to feature an original Fleming title.

It's a bit like on TV when they say, "tune in next week...", gives you
something almost tangible to look forward to.

Just having, "James Bond Will Return" is redundant 'cos its a foregone
conclusion.

I'm hoping to one day see, "The End of (film title here) But James Bond Will
Return in Quantum of Solace" (which is a superb title).

cheers

You know, WQ, you're right. Instead of getting excited at the prospect
of some real quality and excitement in the Bond film series, I should
just sit back and sneer. It's totally uncool to be an enthusiast, and
being an optimist is just not on. I'm just gonna put on my smoking
jacket, slump in my comfy chair with my scotch, and bitch and sneer and
piss and moan about the general badness of life and how anybody who
doesn't feel the same way is an idiot.

I'm sure my life will improve greatly.

>
>

>
> Just having, "James Bond Will Return" is redundant 'cos its a foregone
> conclusion.
>

Such wasn't the case in 1989

Only as far as you're concerned, because you've been negative from

Me? I'll wait to decide if I am happy November 17th.

--- Optimism = disappointment usually; negativity = possibly being very
much surprised. Which would I prefer, being usually disappointed or
possibly very much surprised? Tough call.

FYEO is fine, but Moore as Bond still precludes it from my wanting it
as a DVD, though I'll watch it on the tube whenever it airs. Same goes
for TLD. DAF and YOLT are not top Connery entries, but hey, it's
Connery. Even NSNA qualifies as a keeper, as dull as that film is.
When I get down to it, the deciding factor as to what's a Bond keeper
for me is the actor playing Bond, which actually then outweighs any
real merits of a Bond film itself without the right actor in it. I can
handle Connery in a mediocre Bond film, I can't do the same for the
others. If Lazenby had done more, maybe I'd be able to take him as
well. If CR proves to be a terrific story, Craig as Bond will likely
preclude my wanting to have a DVD copy of it - unless he's
exceptionally fantastic in the role and a credible Bond in his own
right. But that's a tall order for the shortest Bond of all to fill.
Still, as negative as I am, I'm open to being very much surprised. Who
needs the disappointment of optimism?

Up until the post to which I am responding, I was unaware that you didn't
like Craig Period. Is Mr Period the next actor to play Batman then?

(The point of the above seemingly flippant paragraph is that one should
never assume that just because YOU know your viewpoint, everyone does. There

place.)

cheers.

What Mac said. I'd be welcoming 'James Bond will return in...' in
itself even if I thought CR was going to be godawful.

> You sure you guys aren't twins?

Get us started on LTK sometime. Stand well back.

> In the meantime, digest the script and review properly - am looking forward to
> the bashing sessions ahead.

So far I've managed a couple of initial skims, which I think are always
helpful when reading a film, TV, or theatre script for the first time
anyway. I won't manage a fully detailled read for a few days yet. My
first impressions are that your touchstones of TLD and FYEO are pretty
well correct, although I think this may be better than both. And no,
it's not FRWL, but as a *screenplay* I feel it may turn out to be the
one I've liked best since OHMSS.

Best

You have to wait on two cents? I guess writing scripts in your mom's
