#1: Ron and Nevile - Dead Men Walking

Posted on 2006-07-19 03:27:24 by BaJoRi

Both got new wands, with unicorn hair. As they say, it is always the
innocent that go first. And remember that Cedric's wand also contained
unicorn hair. Those wands and their core substances were mentioned for a
reason.

Dead men...all of them.

Wouldn't it be funny if every main character in the series dies in book
seven, except Harry?

Not always the innocent, and not all of them.
Usually one survives. Anyway, unicorn hair is the standard wand core.
It's much more easily obtained than either dragon's heart (requires killing
the dragon) or phoenix feather (apparently must be given by the phoenix
for the purpose).

One of the reasons authors put in multiple characters with similar
characteristics is so that they can have different things happen to them.
That way it's harder to guess _which_ unicorn-hair-wand owner will be
the innocent who dies, and which will be the one who lives.

Oh, lookee. We agree on something.

Really, can you imagine. Rowling would have to go into protective
custody or something.

I agree

The problem with the change that JKR announced - that she is sparing
some and killing others - is that if she JUST made that decision - she
did not give us supporting evidence for those changes in the books she
has already released - ie - any guess as to who they would be is just that.

WHile she has always said that some more would die - obviously she has
spared some of the main characters just based on the statement - so all
of them will not die. I also believe that her statement that she MIGHT
kill Harry means she will not do so - at least during the V battles. I
have always said that it is possible she would use an epilogue to tell
us of Harry's life after Hogwarts and V up to possibly his death - at an
old age. But - because it began as a Children's book series - among many
other reasons - I still believe that the Hero MUST be Harry and Harry
must Vanquish V - and Harry must live on afterwards. A peaceful death
after a long life would not be a bad things for Harry or a Hobbit.

And - while I have no real support for it and I admit it - I believe
that the Fleur-Weasley Wedding - because it was NOT set up over a long
time in the books - is going to have some trouble. Possibly a DE attack
- possibly a death - but something is going to go wrong. THere would not
be a real reason to start this story line so late in the books unless
something was going to happen as far as I am concerned.

indicative. Ron and neville...Dead men walking.

No - she has not.

IF she made the decision to spare someone and kill others AFTER the
release of Book 6 - then she could not have foreshadowed these
particular deaths in the older books.

AS far as your assumption that I meant that these deaths were Ron and
Neville - you are also wrong. I was responding to another person who
stated something to the effect that it would be interesting if JKR
killed off ALL Of the main characters - to which Isaid it would not be.

Since we do not really know who or how many people have wands with
unicorn hairs - we cannot make an assumption based on the limited
sampling of those we do know - it is just not statistically meaningful.

However - JKR has foreshadowed Neville becoming a teacher at Horgwarts -
and that means that Neville will survive the Battle at least.

I KNOW that V will be Vanquished in Book Seven - and his Wand does not
have a Unicorn Hair - one strike against your theory. I also believe
that Harry will not DIE in the Battle to Vanquish Riddle. SInce these
both have the same magical substance in their wands - Fawkes Feathers -
the corelation between the Magical Substance in a Wand and death in the
books is also questionable.
