#1: hoarde under attack

Posted on 2006-07-22 03:02:26 by Scott L

House got broken into yesterday. Fortunately, two things about it were
true.

First, neither I nor my room-mate were home at the time.

Second, something startled the idiot and they ran away before they could get
anything.

Just the same... grrr

I came home from work to a room-mate who's a nervous wreck, a cat who's the
clingiest I've seen him (like, ever), a back door being replaced, and broke
glass all over the place.

grrr

Scott,

The amazing thing was how incredibly unsuited we are to the kind of smash
and grab burglary that was being attempted. We collect some very valuable
things - but it's all the kind that requires a body to know precisely how to
market it and/or is incredibly easily recognized. The perp could've hit any
house on the block and gotten a better haul than we offered, and they hadda
settle on us.

I spoke too soon. We just discovered what was stolen. Our cameras. The
kind of thing we tend not to think about unless we have an immediate use for
them, so we missed them at first. Now our cameras were an impressive
collection. I had a 5 megapixel with 12x optical zoom that ran about a $600
package deal when I got it, and my room-mate had three motion cameras and
one still camera - totalling about $1500 to $2k in value. Now, I'm
officially pissed.

That's the kind of thing my husband would track them down and turn them
inside out over in a heartbeat. Have you thought about getting an alarm
system? Or maybe even just a sign saying you have one? Most crooks aren't
willing to take the chance that the sign might or might not be fake and will
by-pass you.

Good luck finding these morons!

Did you identify them in any way? That's the only way you'll be able to
positively identify them to get them back..... When we were younger (my
siblings and I) our father scribed his SIN (Canada's version of the
American SSN) on our bikes and such. If you didn't, it's going to be next
to impossible to get them back.....

We didn't identify them, and we've already reconciled ourselves to the fact
that everything is pretty much gone permanently. My room-mate is already
out shopping for replacements. He said he did the numbers and the cost of
replacements is actually a wash with the money he saved since he let his
homeowner's insurance lapse. I suspect he doesn't want to play those odds
again in the future however, and I expect he'll be getting his insurance
back up asap. Anyways, my replacement is going to be a Kodak Z650, with 6
megapixels and 10x optical zoom, plus a 2gb memory card, so I'll be able to
live with that for now.

I'm just glad the actual art and other truly dragonny stuff was too
difficult for the thief to take.

There are advantages to living out in the sticks like I do; there is
not a lot of that kind of crime out here. that and the perps would

No, but I'm sure the pawn owner would tell you who sold them to him. At the
