It seems that Bryan Singer was going for an Oscar for cinematography when he
directed this movie. The movie is filled with fancy shots at different
angles.

Unfortunately for Bryan, a piece of crap is a piece of crap no matter how
you look at it.

It looks like they're going to lose a lot of money on this movie. Making
Superman look feminine probably wasn't the best marketing idea they ever
had.

I can't believe that god-awful X-Men movie (that's X-Men 3: The Last Stand
for those of you who are reading this sometime in the future) made hundreds
of millions of dollars because of good marketing. Peeeeeeeuuuuuu! Stinky!!!

I don't know if it's just about the fact that I grew up with Chris Reeve's
rendition of Superman and he's just the model for me (for me, he physically
looked more like his comicbook version than the others), but I have a hard
time buying Routh as Supes (or Singer's version of the Mythos, for that
matter)..

Granted, the movie was OK, but I think they should have gone with, let's
say, a more athletic looking guy. I don't agree with the Advocate's view
that Superman is gay (in fact, he's the only one of the "Trinity" that I
HAVEN'T heard that about), but I don't think Routh's look helps either. A
subconscience thing on Singer's part? I haven't any idea. You decide.

I lost interest when I heard they did away with the classic "Truth,
Justice and the American Way" line.

That's about as bad as when the first of those lame Mission Impossible
moves made out Jim Phelps to be a traitor and killed him off.

That would be like Trek revealing that Kirk was really a Romulan or Borg
spy.

Doesn't everybody.

I personally thought the acting was amateur--even with Kevin Spacey. I think
maybe the actors got fed-up with all of Bryan Singer's fancy camera shots.
Bryan probably shot some scenes many times over. There are a few rare
shining moments in the movie--a few brief glimpses of empathy.

>, but I think they should have gone with, let's

I think that's why the Superman movie was delayed for about ten years. I
think the producers were trying to find a way to present moviegoers with a
feminine-looking superman. I guess Bryan Singer saw this as a chance to get
an Oscar for cinematography, and a big paycheck. And he probably did't have
much to do, since he refused to direct X-Men 3.

The "Truth, Justice..." thing was taken WAY out of context. The particular
line was given to Perry White. Knowing that particular character, I could
buy him saying it that way and not give it a second thought.

1. I hate to dis Spacey, but I didn't like his approach to Luthor. Spacey
can be damn funny if he wants to and he could have done the same thing as
Hackman did and go the more comedic route.

2. From what I hear, the delay was just due to the direction they wanted to
take Superman. Tim Burton was originally slated to do the picture and he
wanted to do all these nutty things to the character (give him a black
uniform, make his "S" chest emblem come apart as knives. Really weird,
Burtonish stuff).

It would have been great if he did the same thing as Hackman. It probably
would have been great too if he portrayed the Lex Luthor from Smallville.

I think Smallville went downhill sometime during the third season (new
writers). But there are some good episodes after that point. The episode
with Flash was great.

There were a bunch of delays for the movie. Brett Ratner was considered to
direct at one point. His suggestions for actors to play Superman were
ridiculous. No wonder X-Men 3 sucked.
