#1: The ONLY way I'd buy the non-anamorphic OT versions...

Posted on 2006-06-20 17:19:17 by Everyperson

Is if they fix the sabres on the "definitive" versions of the movies. Luke's
white-sabre is gay and the pink Vader sabres in Empire and Jedi suck too....

Anyone know if these fixes are being made?

People are never staisfied.

They wanted the ORIGINAL Trilogy. They're now getting (sort of) the
Original Triligy, but they complain that the sound is "crap", the
format isn't "correct" ... and now they want an "original" that George
Lucas tweaks. If I was George Lucas I would have said "stuff you"
decades ago and never released any more "Star Wars" items at all. :-\

Ummmm I could care less about the ORIGINAL Trilogy chief... I'm talking
about the 2004 DVD version. There's no reason that the sabres are so messed
up, ESPECIALLY if this is George's definitive version...

Pay attention maybe you'll do a little better next time...

Well... excuuuse me... but I think that "definitive version" is a
little too open to interpretation for me to guess whether you mean
yours or Georgies...

And my mind-reading is a bit off because I have a low midi-chlorian
count today.

I think the confusion here is that you said you'd buy the non-anamorphic
"original" version of the movie if he makes revisions to the definitive
versions of the Special Editions. As these are two totally different
entities, I can see why this confusion arose.

Honestly, I don't see the issue with the "morphic" quality of the DVDs being
released. Granted, I still don't fully understand the difference, but if it
means the original versions on DVD will be a little more grainy than the SE
I don't mind. It will still be worlds better than the tape I copied from a
VHS version of the movie back in 1989.

Bottom line... the sabres on the 2004 DVD version of the movies suck and
need to be fixed... (along with that thing that's supposed to be Yoda in
Episode I)... but we all already knew that. sorry...

I still can't figure out how those lightsabres passed quality control -
surely they watch the film BEFORE they release the final DVD.

The lightsabre colours are wrong on the menu screens, so they had to be
"in their faces".

Unless the QA tester was colorblind?

I guess my original post was confusing.... I don't expect any improvement to
the "Original" OT... we all know we're getting it warts and all,
non-anamorphic.

To get me to buy this new release, the least they could do is fix the
mistakes in the 2004 DVD versions. IF they did that (and maybe one or two
other tweeks, matte lines anyone?), all we'd need is a new Yoda in Episode I
and we'd have the FINAL version of the trilogy, for the most part. Because
of the tweeks done on the 97 editions for the 2004 versions, we know they'll
"fix" it some more to get us to buy it in HD.

Of course they will. That's the business end of the whole Star Wars
experience. One can either complain about how much George "gouges" while we
willingly fork over more money for the movie series we love or he can just
roll with it and have some fun. I probably could have held out and not
bought the 2004 set knowing that I had a VHS copy of a version of the
movies, but I didn't. I'll be buying these "original" version DVDs and I
will almost certainly buy the Ultimate DVD Box Set. I still hold out hope
that there will be some all new scenes added (possibly already filmed,
possibly all digital) that would add some flavor for the fans. One scene
that I hope is added is of the Senate building being destroyed right before
they cut to the boardroom of the Death Star and Tarkin saying that the
Senate has been dissolved. JarJar haters of the world would go nuts! :-D

Why not just say it simply as we're obviously not talking to someone
with a great interest in that level of technology.

On a Normal (Not widescreen TV) - There will be NO DIFFERENCE between
Anamorphic and Non-Anamorphic. Neither is better.

If you have (or ever plan to have) a WIDESCREEN TV then the Anamorphic
Picture will look much better than a non-anamorphic one.

Of course, if you don't have a widescreen TV and you plan on buying a
High Definition device for your new TV, (and you plan on buying most of
George's re-releases), you could get the OT now, and worry about it
again when the High Definition version comes out.
