Battle of Brisbane... [message #9902] Di, 12 April 2005 20:20

Heh - it all kicked off last night. Avril Lavigne fans and Good
Charlotte fans beating the shit out of each other after Av's Brisbane
gig (during which Av was pelted with coins and bottles by the GC
people - she threw them back at the crowd) - each accusing the other
of being an affront to punk...

Sounded like a slammin' show.

Sadly, it sounds pretty typical. Punks bickering with each other and
infighting instead of turning their attentions to the things that
actually matter...

There were punks in the audience? What, did they get lost on the way to a
gig or something?

There was a hilarious interview with one of the members of Good
Charlotte in the paper a couple of months ago in which he was saying
how he believed that he was a power for good and that GC's music was
the only thing that prevented some of their fans from committing
suicide.

Cheer up, emo kids. :)

I know that Green Day, the Avril band, Blink and Sum41 aren't exactly
the most popular artists around here - but all of them are infinitely
better than Good Charlotte, who have to be one of the front runners
for worst punk band of all time.

Still, the Avrilites involved were a bunch of fucking dicks for
getting involved in a pointless streetfight over musical tastes within
the same subculture. What the fuck happened to unity?

The last Avril gig I went to has quite a lot of what I affectionately
refer to as 'old punks' in attendance - there were even a handful of
middle-aged skins there. They hated Simple Plan (the openers - generic
emo kids), as did just about everyone but seemed to be going wild for
Avril. There wasn't much pogoing going on amongst the kids, so I
really noticed them...

She'd pick 'em up and throw them back at your head. Someone once hit
her in the face with a coin and she jumped down off the stage, chased
the heckler and tried to cudgel him with her guitar...

Some Avril gigs have been pretty wild (the one I was at wasn't), Av
getting pelted with full beer bottles and cans, glasses, shoes, coins,
underwear, fruit, nuts and bolts, etc. - not to mention cocooned
getting in saliva. She revels in it...

One of her favourite games used to be shoulderbutting fans off the top
of the monitors - until she got sued.

Like I've said before - Avril has funny eyes. She's not at the stage
of slicing herself up with broken glass yet, but there's something
seriously wrong with her - her running head-first into the speaker
stack ably demonstrates that...
