I've just been sent this in my mail this morning. I'd given her another
chance after a few kind people on here talked me round after the Paris
Hilton thing but this is just fucking bullshit. Avril is screwing her fans
and treating them like just another cash cow. She knows that the
teenyboppers with rich parents will shell out for this too. What about us
punks on the dole who have to save up and go without food or cigarettes so
we can afford to go to gigs?
What I've read on the Avril forum says that you get like 45 seconds with Av
and your not allowed to take pictures or ask for autographs (there is a goon
with you all the time). Talking about goons, Avril's hired a bunch of thugs
who chuck out kids for moshing/slamming at gigs now and kick the shit out of
ppl who go up to her for a chat.
What the fuck happened to her? This is proof that money can make a good
person into a bad person. To use a cliche, its a great rock n roll swindle
and it fucking sucks. She should chang her name to Avarice Lavigne - dumb
rockstar and sellout.
I'm not even angry about this, I almost expected it from her the way she's
been acting recently.

I think she's a self fulfilling prophecy.
Try looking at the history of post Elvis artists, it's littered with both
sellouts & 'swindles' such as artists pretending to be *real* when all the
time
being *plastic*.
I'm sure there are many fans of Busted, McFly, Blue, even obvious teeny bop
stuff like
Girls Aloud, GGGG Gates etc who believe them to be real credible artists.
It's always happened and always will.
When a type of music just happens without the input of the industry they
just offer big £$
and sign them up, or create their own genre type bands.
UK Punk of the 70s was a classic example. It appeared and caught them on the
hop.
So out came the cheque books and cries of sellout filled the air.
If you know anyone who's ever been in a very successful band, and you know
them personally
and trust them, ask them about the shit that goes on. It's a real eye
opener. A lot of bands start off as skint
working class and full of ideals. Money, fame, drugs are used to control
them. And how many bands sell loads of records
and when the industry is finished with them it just spits them out and they
end up back where they started.
Some bands never sell out but they tend to remain skint and on the fringes.
Others get sucked in and spat out, Jilted John anyone? But perhaps he
enjoyed it while it lasted and EMI
gave him an LP. Would he have got that on Rabid?
We live in a world where integrity counts for fuck all, so just enjoy the
music you enjoy or make your own.

If what you've posted is true, then it's pretty much indefensible.
Avril (or her management, with her approval) is ripping off the fans.
It's a shame. I was only talking to Miner yesterday about the time I
met Avril after a gig a couple of years ago, how much time she had for
her fans and how down-to-earth she was - a lot seems to have changed
in the meantime. Even though she was on a major label, she used to
have ethics - I guess that didn't mean shit once she realized that
there was serious money to be made from turning around and swimming
with the tide.
Still, at least we got one-and-a-half good albums out of her.

Yeah - enjoy the artist for as long as you can before they sell their
soul to rock 'n' roll. There are very few that escape unscathed and
with their reputations intact.
Avril put out one fantastic punk album. Enjoy it for what it was.

That is pretty obscene ($250!!!), but justifies what I've always said about
her - she, like most other punk-wannabes, are in it for as much money as
they can suck out of impressionable teenagers and pre-teens.
Neil Young, if he were dead, would be spinning in his grave. In fact, go out
and spend $250 on Neil Young right this minute - far more rebellion per buck
than Ms. Lavigne.

It wasn't always this way. Avril used to insist that the ticket prices
were kept down for the sake of the fans (only cost me £10 for the
first gig of hers I went to), would spend *hours* chatting late into
the night with people who hung around outside waiting for her to leave
the venue and would sometimes just whip out her guitar in the middle
of the street and start playing her music for whoever happened to be
passing (she didn't have 'minders' in those days). You could by
cynical and say that this was a label ploy to make her look 'real',
but I choose to believe that she was genuine about the whole thing...

It always gone on, just the *industry* is better at it now, and now has
learnt its lessons from
Punk and now nicely packages *alt* music itself.

Don't need the hassle, TBH mate. I value my freedom above just about
everything else.
It's great to be able to spend all my money on myself, smoke what I
want, eat bad food, sleep when I want, be alone when I want, sit
around in my bathrobe until 2pm when I have nothing to do that day and
generally be an irresponsible, lazy fucker. I'm perfectly happy the
way I am.
I don't think I'll ever have kids - just the sound of a screaming baby
or toddler on the bus makes me grind my teeth. I've never really been
a people person - I guess it's the only child complex. Or maybe I'm
just an arsehole - who knows? :)

On a related subject, I was in deep discussion last night with an
associate with regards to how much one night of sexual depravity (the
full works, no condoms, as many whips, ropes, needles, razor blades
and staple guns as I desire) with Ashlee Simpson would set me back.
