Well, all I can say is that if it's true, they've just earned their pay
for the week. :-D

Huh...
"KNX noted that, during testing of the weapon, subjects were advised to take
off eyeglasses and empty their pockets of coins in order to avoid injury."
I wonder what that thing does with fillings and pacemakers...

I actually get the image in my head of this device being used less for
crowd control and more for popping popcorn and heating up hot dogs.

They should work on a beam that will make people lose
their bowel control That would make a crowd disperse
pretty quickly as well, cos no one would want to crap
themselves in front of everyone.

Actually, we've already got that. Seriously, there's a replacement for
conventional tear gas and mace called VX 505, used in some correctional
facilities (prisons, both adult and juvenile). It comes in a small gas
grenade that emits a cloud of the stuff. Causes people to lose control of
their bowels, their urinary tract, they just fall to the ground completely
unable to control much of anything.
Someone who has seen it used told me it was unbelievably effective at
breaking up fights, even on inmates that laughed at mace and pepper spray.
Trouble is, if you use that in Iraq you're going to be tagged with the
charge of using chemical weapons, much like Saddam.
But beams of radiation that cook people alive? Why, we can spin that in to
something else entirely. A non-lethal weapon; those Iraqis, aren't they so
fortunate we're finding ways to hurt them without killing them? Aren't we
just wonderful?
