Condolences to his friends and family, but what a great and adventerous life
he's led - as a real life wartime pilot, and creating his own next
generation at age 80.
Here's looking at ya!

From the CNN article:
<quote> He accused Shatner of hogging the camera, adding: "I like Captain
Kirk, but I sure don't like Bill. He's so insecure that all he can think
about is himself." </quote>
I guess they couldn't actually post this Shatner-bashing quote on
startrek.com, so that is why they LINKED to the CNN article!

I know I'm just a sentimental old fool, but I always kinda hoped for at
least one more shot for the TOS crew. Even after DeForest died that thought
lingered. But with this news I finally, after forty years (yeah, long time
now isn't it!) have laid to rest my qwest for any new classic Trek.

You're not the only one, kw. I felt and now feel exactly the same
way. Like you, I agree it is time to let go. Nothing lasts forever,
particularly something that special. It was a special magic we all had and
shared for a good 25 years. For something like that to endure, as long as it
did, is something for which to be thankful.
I only hope that someone picks up the rights and finishes work on
the old Interplay video game of "Secret of Vulcan Fury" that was slated for
release in 1997, but then cancelled after so much work had been done
(including voice-overs and most of the CGI) when Interplay went bankrupt.
God bless you Jimmy, not only for all the entertainment through the
years, but for your service to our country during WWII, so that we could
enjoy shows like Star Trek and speak out against our president in time of
war. Thank you.

I had the priveledge of seeing Jimmy Doohan at several east coast
conventions in the 80s and 90s. He was one of the few celebrity guests
who truly liked and respected his fans. It wasn't uncommon to see him
socializing with fans all throughout the convention instead of holing
up in his room waiting for his scheduled speech. I strongly urge all
Doohan fans to find a copy of his autobiography. The stories of his
difficult childhood and horrible wounding on D-Day will show that both
the character he played on TV and the man he was were larger than life.
Rest well, Scotty.

It's like the "Beatles" -- you hope for a reunion, and you hope,
and you hope, and eventually you realize it isn't ever going to
happen.

Yes, I have that book. Just recently I bought the audiocassette

While I whole heartily echo those sentiments, last I checked Canada (the
country he served in WW2) didn't have a President.

We've always had that ability. And if Doohan was fighting today (for the

I loved both the Scotty character and how James Doohan played him.
In TV and the movies, except for Star Trek, there have been very few
engineers portrayed as positive role models. Usually engineers are
portrayed as geeks or hackers.
Rest in peace, James.

I think that the Trek films are mostly hit and miss, some of them
are just poor. But Star Trek 4 is different, it is funny and the story
its self is well thought out and written. I like the punk rocker on
the bus with that excellent music blasting out of his stereo. I like
Chekov asking the police man where the nuclear wessels are.
And of course the bit when Scotty tries to talk to the computer
by talking into the mouse.
Watching Star Trek 4 is a great way to think about about Scotty
and Mcoy. You can also have a laugh cos it is a funny film as well..
RIP. Dudes.

But Scotty had a really nasty temper when he was provoked. He was
practically yelling at some things Ambassador Hodin said. And he was
fiercely defensive about the U.S.S. Enterprise, to the point of
violence. When that Klingon on Space Station K-7 called the Enterprise
a piece of garbage, Scotty punched him out.
Sometimes a starship captain has to play diplomat rather than soldier.
Maybe that's why Scotty was never offered command of a starship, even
though he eventually got promoted to captain (cf. ST III: The Search for
Spock).
