Jon Snow: Pakistan today conducted a sweep of extremists in its
madrassas, detaining over a dozen suspects.
Except he said 'detonating' instead of 'detaining'.

Well, the word was "suspects" - not proven - and detonating
them might be a bit hard on anyone in the surrounding area
when they went up!

I suspect YOU of various forms of creepery...... is that close
enough to take a cricket bat to the side of your head? You
won't object because it's "close enough" just to be suspected?

Altogether different, because your "suspicion" of me has no basis.
Pakistani extremists already in custody are in an entirely different class
of suspicion. See the difference?

There was an Egyptian chap suspected of supplying the bombers with
the bombs, or at least the expertise with which to make those bombs.
Chemist studying at Leeds, had links with one of the bombers, left
Britain for Egypt just before the bombings.
(Reuters) Egypt says Egyptian had no link to London bombs
http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/L1954795.htm
"There is complete security cooperation with the British side, which
is convinced from the questioning carried out by Egypt that Elnashar
had no role in these explosions," al-Ahram newspaper quoted a senior
security source as saying.

The Egyptian chemist was in custody before this latest roundup in
Pakistan. Unless, of course, you're referring to people in Pakistani
custody before he was taken. But then Jon Snow (and I and Jette
Goldie) was referring to a roundup that took place yesterday, so I'm
not sure what your point would be then.
In any case, there's always the case of the Birmingham, Guildford,
etc. numerologies that show that 'being in custody' doesn't always
mean guilty. There's also the case of the ostensible commander of
Japanese forces at Nanjing that shows that 'convinced of guilt and
executed' doesn't always mean guilty.

I didn't say I could *prove* anything - I have enough evidence to
*suspect* it, though - so let's see if the authorities are able to
prove
anything on these guys before we decided that *suspicion* is "close
enough".

The Egyptian authorities who questioned him are saying there is nothing
to link him to the bombings. That's not quite true, as explosives were
found at a flat he rented. But it is not entirely clear what the exact
link is. He could well be innocent of all suspicions and just have been
stupid enough to let some "friends" use his flat while he went back to
Egypt for a holiday. But that is just speculation.
As for the expertise to make the bombs. Some have said that because he
is a biochemist (not a chemist) then he wouldn't have had the expertise.
That is not entirely true, but the confused reports where he was first
said to be a "professor", then a "lecturer" and then a "PhD student"
(actually just finished his PhD), when in fact he was likely all three
(though the professor reference is complicated to explain), just goes to
show what today's standards of journalism are like.
So I'd wait until the details are clearer. It was _days_ after the
bombings before many of the misreported details were finally corrected,
even in the mainstream media. The example I am thinking of is the
direction of travel of the number 30 bus that was blown up. It was
initially reported as travelling from Hackney Wick to Marble Arch. In
fact, as anyone could tell from the early pictures of the bus, the
travel indicator showed it was travelling towards Hackney Wick. It had
left Hackney Wick earlier that morning and turned round at Marble Arch
(at 9am) to make the return journey back to Hackney Wick. Numerous
eyewitness reports and a press release from the bus company corroborated
this. But the misreported details lingered in the media for many days.

I can - I can see that you are a danger to the freedoms espoused by the West
from what you posted about treating suspects as guilty. I don't know the
same about anyone arrested by a military dictatorship because it says they
are "extremists". So you are clearly a better candidate for Jette's cricket
bat than they are - though still not a good enough candidate for me to
endorse her using it.

The Egyptian chap _was_ in custody. Do you mean it is only OK
to blow innocents up for being "close enough" if it's the Brittish
or Pakistanis that have him in custody, rather than the Egyptians?

As if rounding up a whole dozen people will make any difference anyways.
