Seriously the circular part is probably a proportion wheel from the art
department. Anyone who ever used to need to have artwork scaled up or down
via PMTs or negatives remembers using one of these to calculate the
percentage of enlargement or reduction to a new size.
The other rectangular thing looks like an old newspaper column and fraction
guide for ads and classified ad layout.

It's an Circular Aviation Slide Rule. And depending which chart you put in ,
it can be used for doing altitude, pressure, wind drift, time, temperature,
and fuel problems.
I can't make out the makers name, but it looks pretty standard. My uncle was
a small plane pilot so I've seen these before.

OK, and what's he doing with it? Are you familiar with the episode?

Why would one of those be conveniently around as a prop? Would Matt Jeffries
have had one? Seriously it looks more like a designer's proportion wheel.

Wasn't Spock supposed to be figuring out how to stay in orbit or something
with the computer knocked out by the alien Adonais?

It's a Jeppesen & Co. version. Compare the the screen cap to the slide
rule shown here:

The Jeppesen 'J' stands out.

Nope it's a Jeppesen aviation slide rule. It could have been GR's personal
one. Him being a pilot and all.

Yeah looks like you're right. They are the same principle though, basically

That she gets Jack to mistakenly call him Spock is pretty funny. I bet even
Nimoy would have chortled.
> Anyone remember The Doctors last lines to the Delaks at the end of Bad
> Wolf?
The Doctor-"I'm going to wipe every last stinking one of you out of the
sky!"
Dalek- "But you have no weapons, no defenses, no plan!"
The Doctor- "Yeah- doesn't that scare you to death?"
I absolutely always hated the Daleks because they were such cheesy looking
costume effects but they retroed them into this series in an okay way. The
image of thousands of them 'flying' gave me a shiver even watching it on the
little 15" monitor the first time. The Emperor Dalek could have used a bit
more work, but I don't know what the budget was. I assume they were going
for a Cluthu reference. Thought it would have been nice of someone had
commented on it in a humorous way even if most of the audience wouldn't have
gotten it anymore than the one in "Hellboy".
I also like the one where he tells the alien child to 'go to it's room' and
when it works he exclaims something to the effect 'I'm glad that worked.
Those would have been terrible last words.'
I could have done without much of the game show episode though. The Anne
Droid made me groan. (Still down-torrenting some of the eps)
Too bad Eccleston didn't decide to stick around. He was good.

I can't remember the exact quote or episode details anymore but one of my
absolute favs is from my dimming memories of the Tom Baker era where a think
the Master had fallen some great distance toward his (always temporary)
demise and The Doctor says as close as I can remember 'Looks like the
gravity of the law finally caught up to him.'

Thanks for the post :) Some great stuff there. Dr. Who never attracted me
but it seemed I missed some good stuff.

Yes, you have! And Christopher Eccleston's delivery and sense of comic
timing will be greatly missed by this new "Whovian". :-(
I hear lots of good things about the NuWho, David Tennant. We'll see!

I haven't seen the classic Tom Baker stuff in nearly 20 years. I still miss
the floppy hat and scarf thing.
I'm certain the FX are so dreadful to look at now that they make TOS FX look
light-years ahead by comparison, but there was lots of wit. It always seemed
to be played a little more like a kiddie show, but there were some sly yuks
in there as well. I wish I knew more about the show and someone like Sci-Fi
Channel would pick it up here in the States instead of the dreck they run
already.
The newer show has effects that almost all look plausible and the ones that
don't you think well they probably ran out of time and money like the Dalek
Emperor. I think I would have made the Daleks a little more plausible
looking and call it an 'evolution' of these that survived, but what they did
was still pretty cool.
The opening effect of the Tardis in the credits and some of the bits of it
spinning through space were really cool. I'm not sure I thought the new
control room was an improvement over the Tom Baker era look. I thought that
the entrance on the inside of the Tardis was never seen from the interior as
though it was an anteroom of sorts.
I'd have really liked to have seen a clever shot where the camera followed
them say from the main control thing out the door vérité style and then
turned back to see the enormous space we just left was in fact the tiny call
box prop and they circle around it. There are a few ways it could be done
and it would be so very cool to get that extra dimensional thing across.
I noticed there was a scene in the Cardiff one where the Doctor explained
about the 'chameleon circuit' being stuck making it look like a police call
box and him never fixing it because he liked it that way. I wish they'd come
up with a story where something happens like the Tardis is under attack and
the chameleon circuit comes alive making it change into a bunch of other
things before resuming it's call box disguise.
I was thinking sperm whale, bowl of petunias, etc...

Folks, our resident seer wrote those words on July 3rd. It's one of many
parallels he shares with Bullwinkle: in this case he doesn't know his own

Pishposh Bo, I'm just like any other man only more so...
Besides. One never goes wrong looking on the bright side of lif.
Now if you'll all excuse me, I've got a hurricane coming in.
And nobody better dare declare spnak or spunk or whatever the hell that is
while I'm laying bleeding in the rubble with my lan in shambles...
