Hi all,

Shame if you ask me, Simo's site was incredibly useful for keeping up to
date.

If he's true to his work he probably won't even read this. You'll be
missed...

;) word and work are pretty much the same in Simo's case.

I just wrote a litle goodbye in his guestbook. I hope he still reads
that. And remember they, who live by the flame, die by the flame...

I don't know what to say. Simo has done more for the DNA community than
anyone (except of course Douglas Adams himself).

The statement on his website is, unfortunately, irretrievable, which
leaves us all with a little less true Douglas Adams knowledge.

I hope and believe that the froup has not been cause of this. I have
seen no or little personal abuse on the froup, and lots of possitive
answers even from people who don't want to accept the message of the review.

Simo, I know you won't reply, but I hope that you will read this: Thank
you for all you have done through these years. It's sad it should end
like this, and although it means you will have to swallow your words, I
do hope that you will return, even as just another fan, after a much
needed period of doing something else.

I know that you probably will find this tasteless and silly, but it is
all I have to offer from the froup:

FROUPHUG!

Best

I've been a fan of DNA's work since 1980 and I've been posting on this froup
since before it was a froup. Like me, they come and they go. He'll be
back. Or he won't. Yes, yes. Terrible loss, what? The mice will be
furious. What did I do with that other sock thingy?

Oh, well. Here's this:

Pretty sad state of affairs. I expected a bit of a backlash to his review -
I think it was brave to post it.
Simo was much valued IMHO and it must be hard for his favourite work to turn
on him and kick him in the teeth.

I sent him a personal thank you for his efforts. Perhaps other would like to
do the same ?

Um, he'd been thinking about it and has decided to stop writing, so the
probability is that he won't come back.

I have a hard time sympathizing with him in this situation. He posted
a lengthy, nitpicky, emotionally charged review on the Internet. He
therefore had no right to expect clemency from an equally emotional fan
base. Between this and the smug tone his writing often took on, I'm
surprised he didn't face any flames prior to this recent situation.

I'm not saying his review was either accurate or inaccurate; all I'm
addressing here is his crybaby way of handling dissent, which was to
take his ball and go home. Childish.

How much courage does it take to post something to the Internet and
then to simply handle the backlash as it comes in? The "libel" he
accused people of was nothing more than (1) a bunch of stupid trolls
who everyone else on the Internet [but him] manages to ignore
successfully and (2) people who didn't agree with his review who
challenged him on it in a way he didn't like.

I've enjoyed visiting his site and reading up on the news, and I'm sad
that he's decided to pack up and go home. But I will not sympathize
with his plight, because it was entirely self-created. It's not even a
real plight; he just got pissy and stormed off.

This was planned beforehand - he wanted to write about other stuff and was
planning to shut Magrathea on 6th of May come hell or high waters. The
trolls merely meant he closed a couple of weeks early, that's all.
