Even through Nimoy into that mix. If Paramount wanted to rejuvenate the
franchise, it's people like these that they could turn to.
A new film set in the time frame just after 'The Undiscovered Country' could
work nicely. The fans know the universe, the Enterprise is decommissioned
along with its crew. Captain Sulu is of course still running around the
quadrant at the center seat of Excelsior. A new ship, new crew, and a
'competent' production team and this could work. You don't have the
'uber-tech' of TNG yet, or the new Federation PC policy of prepaid legal
services in favor of phasers and bluffs.
Be my choice for the way I wish they'd go anway.

Sounds interesting ... plus, in that timeframe the political background
might be interesting as well, with a beginning, yet uneasy peace between
the Federation and the Klingon Empire.
Romulan political intrigue, anyone ? ;)
