Yes Tom Cruise is the star of this movie but the trailer looked great.
Anyone planning to see this rework of the cult classic?

Love to sometime, but I just spent all my available money on Batman Begins.
Any of you ever hear the radio version? I think my family has a record

The Orson Wells one, or the Jeff Wayne one? :) I have the latter on
both vinyl and CD, and be interested to hear the former, though I
haven't yet had the chance. It's only been broadcast once in Britain
in recent years, to my knowledge, and I was out at the time.

sorts of old radio programs on casette and CD.
I break out the WotW brodacast every halloween, it's become sort of a

Batman Begins, shurely? Or is this another of those movies that's been
on release in the States for about two months already?
I'd suggest League of Gentlemen Apocalypse, too, but even if it gets a
US release, you'll have no idea what's going on. :D

Yes, I forgot that one, and Bewitched... oh, and if it ever gets anywhere
near here, other than 4 to 6 hours away that is... Howl's Moving Castle...

Tell me how that one ends up (if any one sees it). I'd got to thinking on
WHY I wanted to see it, and all of a sudden it was just some movie.

I think the original genre-defining literary classic is probably more
important than the cult movie classic. :)
But I'm planning to see the Cruise/Spielberg version, largely because
I'm intrigued to know how they'll be portraying the fighting machines.
The floaty ones from the 1953 film simply don't look as frightening as
the proper tripods. Something to do with a deep-seated genetic
disposition to fear spiders, possibly.

You mean Howl's Moving Castle? SPOILER SPACE!!
It was great!! I enjoyed it immensely... and would love to see it at the
theatre... we downloaded an avi taken from a theatre showing.. laugh.. you
can see people moving in the background... but it will do until we get an
official R1 release here to buy.... Let me see, Howl is a magician, and he
has several different identities, and the castle is magical and moves by the
help of a little fire elemental who is actually tied to Howl from his
childhood... the main girl (and I don't remember her name, I'm terrible with
that) is cursed by an old enemy of Howl's and turned into an old woman who
leaves her home and then ends up in the castle.. then decides that she can
be of service by cleaning/cooking because she had met Howl when he was
escaping from some bad entities, but she didn't know the castle belonged to
him... then she finds out she really does care for Howl, even though he is
rather standoffish... but then how could he care for her when she's like old
enough to be his grandmother... then comes the war, and everybody wants Howl
to fight in it, he just wants to be left alone... but gets dragged into it
anyway... then we have the showdown between Howl and his old enemy, the
showdown between Howl and the King who wants him to defend his kingdom, etc.
etc... and of course whether the curse can be lifted or not from the girl...

Miyazaki films are always interesting. I have yet to see a one of his
movies that wasn't worth my time.
Personally I think the English titles are what really don't do his
movies justice. They make the movies sound so boring, and they don't
usually tell you anything about the movie. With Spider-Man you at least
knew that the main character was a superhero named Spider-Man, assuming
that you'd never read the comics or seen the show in any way heard of
Spider-Man before. With Star Wars you knew that it was a science fiction
series about a war (or wars), probably with big explosions and fast
chase scenes. Princess Mononoke? Some princess with a weird name.
Spirited Away? Some character is away from home. Howl's Moving Castle -
judging from the name alone, that just sounds weird.

LOL! So true. Then there's Metropolis. A movie about a big city (whoo).
I'm sure there are others, but it being 3am, that's all I got.
