Clean? Keyboard?
Um...NO
My keyboard is filthy, cat hair, dirt, food crumbs...god knows what
kind of eco-system has evolved...

Keybords of respectable quality are $20, when this one evolves legs
and walks, of wings and flys away, I will just replace it.

I use the only type of keyboard worth owning, an IBM Model M made in
1987, removable keycaps so I just swap them out for the clean set and an
easy to open case to clean out all the drek from it's innards.

These are great 'boards, mechanical switches and it even has a steel
plate in the back, because you never know when you'll have to fend off a
yeti attack.

I have a Zboard, so I can just pop off the keyset and dump out the tray

I also have a roll-up keyboard that can be washed, even while it's

Yes. Soaking might not be enough. Just wash it like you would do with
dishes. The automatic dishes washer will probably do the trick.

questions. The answer no in itself is not an acceptable answer imho. There
was no clarifacation in the one word reply.

I just blow in mine from time to time. Mind you, I have 5 others if
this one ever dies, including one of those affor-mentioned clicky
keyboards. Sadly, that one is missing about a third of it's keys, I use
to like to pull them off when I was (much) younger. And no, I don't use
a plastic protector.

He He, ain't that the truth...
I guess I could re-map the layout and use the scroll lock key as the
windows key...

Well, mine being black, is in sad need of being cleaned right now... and no,
I don't use a plastic protector for it... I just wish the painted on letters
would stay that way... laugh... anyway... when I get serious about cleaning
it, I either pop off each section/row of keys one at a time, (please, if you
do this, make sure you keep them in line so you know exactly where they go
back on the keyboard!!) clean them with rubbing alchohol, or if you don't
want to go to all that trouble, then just use a q-tip soaked in alchohol and
wipe between each key/section... the rubbing alchohol does a good job of
cleaning out gunk and dirt and dries quickly and it doesn't hurt the plastic
finish any. Someone should really... I mean really, invent keys that have
the letters recessed into the keys so that they don't wear off... I could
touch up the letters with white paint, but it doesn't look good... and
decals won't work either.... sigh.. so I eventually just buy another
keyboard when I can't stand it anymore... laugh... and it really shouldn't
be that big of a problem since I'm a touch typist so I don't have to look at
the keys to type... laugh...

Or do what I did to a "friend" of mine, remap the print screen key so
hitting it shut down the comp without so much as a "by your leave". ;)

At least after that I didn't get constant requests for unpaid tech
support from him.

Just make sure it's dried completely (take off the cover if you can and
leave it for about a week or so) before you plug it back in.

Every so often I give the old IBM keys a clean with alky or foam cleaner on
a rag or hankie. This cleans the keytops so they can be read.

Every so often can mean a couple of centuries or so.... but I have done it
at least once in the last four years.

I'm missing the Esc and F4 keycaps ...fortunately I can usually tell which
is which.
