I thought that what they said was that they'd hardly had to make any cuts
to fit the running time, to the extent that they had filmed some 'fake
deleted scenes' especially for the DVD. Hence, there isn't actually the
material to make an extended cut, whether they wanted to or not.
(I shall refrain from saying "Don't you think the movie was bad enough
without petitioning for it to be longer still?" because a) I've just
posted a somewhat inflammatory remark about LTUAE, and b) I don't think it
was that bad anyway.)
Incidentally, isn't it the case that online petitions have as much chance
of making an effect as a whelk in a supernova?

It doesn't have much of a chance of doing anything of note whilst being in a
supernova - which wouldn't be for very long.
It's similar to a cat in hell except that it is difficult to be in
fictitious places, even for a cat, and a welk is a lot smaller than a cat.
And a supernova is hotter too ! Probably !

Invariably the question of what a whelk has to do with something pops
