Anyone who has this edition care to comment? I am contemplating its
purchase.
Thanks.

I own botht the UK and US releases of the volume. Although there is an
Amazon review which touts the UK volume as the preferred ed., I actually
prefer the US ed. I concede that the box on the UK edition may be a bit
more sturdy and pleasing to the eye, but the US edition has a drawing by the
prof on the box (Orthanc) and its gilt pages, paper color and overall design
are much more esthetically to my liking. The page numbering is the same, so
there is no prob on that score, but I find the UK's glossier paperstock and
half-sized maps to be a bit annoying.
IMHO, of course.

What are you interested in knowing about it?
I have only the USA edition (so don't know if the
plates are exactly the same or if the errors I
spotted in the USA edition are not in the UK)

Does it indeed correct the errors that had crept into recent eds?

What errors? Wasn't this meant to be the definitive edition with lots of
the errors weeded out? Or did they rush it to print, thinking: "We can
issue another edition in a few years time, with more corrections"?
I haven't looked properly through my UK 50th edition yet.
I remember thinking the US 50th edition looked nicer.
But I had already bought the UK one.
Can't afford both.

An effort was made to do so.
Appendix C was expanded and both expanded pages introduce new
spelling inconsistencies;at least one index entry is mistaken;
the Note on the Text has a grammatical and a factual flub.

Well, the new genealogical tables each spell someone's name
differently than on previous material, and I spotted one random
Index entry that was incorrect...I have not done a thorough check.
