I've prepared myself micely for my new job which I start tomorrow....

I've loaded up my MP3 player with all the radio episodes in the correct
sequence, and I've got myself one of those little cassette tape adaptors
to allow you to run a CD/MP3 player through a car cassette player....

Now my by reckoning, I can listen to exactly two episodes driving into
work, and two episodes driving home again....So I'll be absorbing 4
episodes a day....So by Friday, I'll have listened to almost the entire
collection so far....

It beats the inane crap and drivvelings of the local radio Deejays,
hands down.....

After that you can get hold of
- The audiobooks (I prefer the ones rewad by DNA, but there is also
something to be said fopr Stephen Moore's version - although I thnik
that was abridged, wasn't it? I can't remember, I only heard them
once, borrowed from a public library)
- Last chance to see audio book (It's great, although I only have that
as a CD-ROM which isn't the easiest way to get hold of it in a car
from)
- The Guide to the Guide (various interviews and stuff - I used to have
it, until I forgot it in a previous jobs cabinet)
- DNA [at] BBC - not that I can really recommend that as interesting for more
than one listen
- The 25th anniversary celebration
This is actually better than DNA [at] BBC IMHO
- The Marvin songs
- That interview posted here on ~afda
- The movie soundtrack
....and more...

You could keep yourself going for a month, at least...

I would expect to get fired if I drove _into_ my work. Then again, I
work at a place with office and laboratory; if I worked as a car crash
tester it might be different.

I have half an hour on bike to university and one hour on bike to work
(more than an hour with train and bus). The trip to work was only 25
minutes in car - unfortunate though that I do not have a car
anymore...

I really should get an mp3 player for the train trips when weather is
bad...

I've got 'Marvin' and 'Metal Man' off the 'Marvin the Paranoid Android'
single, and 'Reasons to be Miserable' and 'Marvin, I Love You' off 'The
Double 'B' Side' single.

Oh, and the soundtrack album for The Movie has a version of 'Reasons to
be Miserable', remixed to be more palatable to modern tastes - and oddly
rewritten to be in the third-person instead of first-person.

I find 'Marvin, I Love You' to be rather depressing, and 'Metal Man' to
be a bit grim, but the other two are great.

You see, probably they'll build the "Uncle Lloyd bypass" instead, so
you can come from point A to point B through point C, though people at
point C won't know what's so great about point A and point B.

But that does not matter. It's a bypass, you know. And it's your
bypass. Well, will be.

I find that the cover by Stephen Fry on the movie soundtrack sucks. I find
that both 'Metal Man' and 'Marvin, I Love You' aren't that good. But I love
'Marvin' and 'Reasons To Be Miserable' (the original) so the records are
worth picking up if you can.

Ah, but noone wants to. But teh bypass _will_ be built and then it
could as well be named after Uncle Lloyd as they will have to name
_something_ after him.

Also, teh bypass would be for Uncle Lloyd bypassing point C, not for
other people going around him. Also that could be terribly crowdy if
everyone had to go around Uncle Lloyd.

Well, yes, and of course *everyone* can't go around Uncle Lloyd, because
then Uncle Lloyds would have to go around uncle Lloyd, and then everyone
would start to go in epi-cycles and stuff like that.

And just try asking Kopernikus what it's like when epicycles get
involved! Terrible mess, that is.

Which would mean that Uncle Lloyd would become a star with everyone
else going around him (epicycles or not)?

But is he not a star already? At least in teh froup?

Presumably they couldn't or wouldn't get Alan Rickman, so they went for
Stephen Fry and changed all the words. There's also a new version of
'Marvin' available on iTunes, similarly modernised and reworded.

Several remixes of 'Reasons to Be Miserable' are available on iTunes
too, but one of them was quite bad enough for me so I can't comment on
the others.

Apparently I'm in a minority here, because I rather like 'Marvin, I Love
You'. Although I do agree that 'Metal Man' isn't particularly good.

For the record, that appears to be "The Marvin Mixes":

itms://ax.phobos.apple.com.edgesuite.net/WebObjects/MZStore. woa/wa/viewAlbum?playlistId=57205805

(You'll need to have iTunes installed to visit that link, of course)

I quite agree, they all seem uniformly dismal. Perhaps that's just being
