Heh. Actually, yes, that does makes sense. It's just hard to imagine how,
but I think it's so you know what each key on the keyboard is.

And actually a better one. But you'd be hard pressed to find a keyboard
with the keys arranged that way for you. And then you have to change a
setting in the control panel (for windows at least) to make it so that the
same scan codes are being translated to the right key....

Let's also not forget AZERTY. Haven't seen them in awhile, but, same
goes for DVORAK... And I do think it's a stupid question, but how about
one that asks you what each mouse button does? I had that on one of my
college tests a coupple of years back.

Though there's a shift key in between the slashes. It's really quite a demented
position for that slash, now that I think about it.

It's certainly very Anglocentric (as well as being too simplistic, one
would have thought, for college). The French AZERTY is pretty
widespread, and I imagine Japanese keyboards are set up a bit
differently, too. ;P

That's actually a fallacy. Independent tests carried out with typists
skilled in both layouts going for a top speed showed very little
difference between the two.
QWERTY certainly doesn't slow typists down as is often claimed. The
original idea was simply to put letters commonly typed in combination
somewhere that would minimise typewriter jams.

I had a keyboard like that, and I was used to the double width shift
key, so whenever I was typing caps, I'd end up with "\i" instead of "I".

What annoys/ed me about this layout is the | char (vertical bar thingy that's
shifted on the \ key, if anyone is confused). I progam in C, which uses that
character quite a bit. I keep hitting enter instead. Drives me up the wall and
down the other side, which puts me in the hallway unable to reach my computer so
I get grumpy.

Not necessarily. Ever tried a DvortyBoard? Or maybe a TypeMatrix.com
keyboard (which shape I prefer over normal keyboards).
My dad used to buy me a new DvortyBoard every time they came out with a
new model. Then he switched to buying TypeMatrix.com boards. I finally
told him to stop when I realized I had 6 working keyboards and only 1
computer to use them with!

"You see in this dome the intermingling of native and Earth plants.
Outside, they are competitors, struggling over the trace elements
required for life. Often, one destroys the other. Here, they are tended
with care and kept well nourished. They thrive together, and the native

competition is unnecessary when resources are plentiful and population
growth is controlled." -Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri, by Firaxis Games
