unfortunaly, no... it might be something your isp is requiring in shich
case there probably isnt anything you can do, unless it gives the
option of "remembering" the login for each time...

Do bottom post.
Yes, x-privat does require a username and password, but they can be gotten
for free. If you click on the "Join News Server" link (ending up here:
http://www.x-privat.org/join.php ), then all you have to do is fill out the
info and wait for an email. Then the info goes into your news reader and is
saved. If you have to re-enter it every time, I suggest getting a new news
reader. www.newsreaders.com
I also suggest getting a new one if your's is defaulting to top-posting
format.

From the http://www.sff.net/help/setup/TbirdNews.asp#tbirdnews site.
Used to connect to a different server than yours, but the security
settings should be the same:

"To successfully login to SFF Net, you'll need to tell Thunderbird how
to connect and log in with your SFF Net username and password. Use Tools
--> Account Settings from the menu to bring up the Account Settings
screen again. In the list box on the left side, highlight the Server
Settings entry for news.sff.net (make sure you're NOT looking at the
Server Settings for any other listed account). Make sure the Always
request authentication when connecting to this server checkbox is
checked. That's it! You're all set to access the newsgroups. Close all
the account settings dialog boxes so you're back at the main Thunderbird
window. First thing you'll want to do is subscribe to some newsgroups on
the SFF Net server. To this, highlight the news.sff.net folder in the
Folders pane on the left side of the page. Click the Manage newsgroup
subscriptions icon in the Newsgroups section of the main pane: You'll be
prompted for your SFF Net username (this is NOT your SFF Net email
address!) and your password. Click the box to have Password Manager
remember your information, if you wish. "

Seems as if you need to use the "Password Manager" to remember your
password. Look for this feature in the above described dialog boxes.
Other than that, I can't help you as I don't use Thunderbird.
