THE SCI-FI CHANNEL [message #50919] Di, 31 Mai 2005 17:23
TOKRA
Why don't they run all those old black and white "b" movies a few times
a week that ran in the 1960's. Ya know,
on Chiller Theater or Supernatural Theater on Saturday nights. Or good
Sci-Fi shows, when they were good.
Seems like the SCI-FI channel should run those movies and old shows
instead of running
all this crap they do most of the time. Most of it sucks anyway. Ya
know, lets go the the center of the earth
to jump start the magma flow again. How many of those are there?? Or
gee wizzz, look at how big that snake is.
Or Jason, can you rip Fredies head off. JEZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
With such great Sci-Fi out there why do they insist on not running any
of it???
A great channel for Sci-Fi but they don't run anything good on it.
Which makes the Sci-Fi channel NOT GOOD for Sci-fi,
and that is a shame.

It costs them money to run movies that they didn't produce themselves...

Ah, this is true BUT the stuff I'm talking about can be
gotten for a song. MUCH less then producing "their" own crap.
Now there is another "perfect storm" movie.

WORD FOR WORD what we said the other Saturday night. These in house
movies gotta cost them 100 times what it would cost for those great 50's b&w
classics that we never get tired of. I can watch The Tingler, It Came From
My Underwear, the Giant Fruit Bat and they others forever. These Saturday
night flicks are worse than awful! Bad acting, stories, and directing. What
are they thinking? They must be spending a bundle on production costs and
special effects for basically a one shot showing. I wonder if they think
that they have a DVD or or some other after market for all this shlock?

They should send these new Sci-Fi movies to all
the jails around the country and make the inmates watch them.
They will never want to go back to the slammer!!!!!

tiny minority??? NAh, doubt it. There are TONS of baby boomers that
would agree with me.
Most, not all though. Like you said, "to each his own".
Just because a show or a movie is in glorious color that does not make
it good.
The same thing goes for special effects. Many movies in the last 20
years or so
have great special effects!! But the movie still sucks!! Color and
effects do not make up for
GOOD writing. Here is an example: Ever see the original Time Machine
with Rod Taylor??
Ever see the "new" Time Machine movie a year or so ago. One should be
burned in the trash while the other is timeless!!
If you never saw the one with Rod Taylor, go see it, this is the
timeless one (no pun intended).
Many of the older Sci-Fi movies as well as regular movies are BETTER
than some of today's
crap on TV. Sometimes Black and White enhances the story.
I'm not saying color is bad or anything like that, heck, I love color
but just because something is Black and White
doesn't make it bad.

just my .04 cents, inflation you know.....

I agree fully. I did not see the remake, and frankly was not and continue
not to be interested. I knew they pretty much could not top the original
and I heard, from the reviews, that they didn't. The original, somewhat a
"cult" sci-fi film I think I can safely say, is simply fantastic. I am so
glad you brought this one up - it is one of my absolute favorites. The
ending is a (mental) show-stopper.

The Time Machine is one of my favorite movies also.
If you have it on DVD (you should) there is some good extra stuff
after the movie. They have Rod Taylor and Alan Young (Filby) ia a 10 or 15 minute
"little play" where Filby is standing in the lab and George comes back for him and
wants to take him into the future before he dies in the war. And yes, the Time machine is there!!!
Wonderful!!! GET IT!!!!!

Thanks. :-) I will try to get it now. I was trying to get it in laserdisc
format - a bit more "collectable" - but those DVD extras certainly sound
worth it.
