Poking my head in (and a request to artists) [message #45073] So, 22 Mai 2005 06:02
Hespa
A small, vaguely familiar, silver-green dragon drops out of the sky to
land in the Central Clearing of Alfandra, looking around with some
apprehension.

"Wow... it's been a while. Seems awful quiet around here..."

Putting her unease aside, she stretches her wings, grins and hollers,
"Hello, the camp! Who's here? Anyone remeber me?"

....

"Aside from sticking my head in to see what's happening, I have a
request for any artistically inclined dragons (or whatevers) who are
feeling generous or just up for a challenge. Put simply, I want a
tattoo. But not just any tattoo: it has to be very special to get a
permanent place on my skin."

Reaching into thick air, she summons an image of a section from her
LiveJournal, for showing to anyone interested. It reads:

'I already know where I want the tattoo: on the upper portion of my
lower arm, below the elbow. I had a henna tattoo there I little whie
ago, and liked it a lot. That way it can be made visible quite easily,
but can also be easily hidden if it really needs to be - for instance,
if I'm attending a job interview for something a bit less open-minded
than most theatre. My right arm, I think, though I'm not sure why. It
just feels right.

As for what it will be... I know I can't draw it myself. I'm just not
good enough at drawing. But I want it to be drawn by either someone I
know or by a dragon (preferably someone who covers both options). I
also know it has to be exactly right before I give it a permanent
place on my flesh, so someone's going to have to be very patient with
me (alternatively, it might be a better idea to ask several people to
do something and then pick one - that way, even if none of the options
are immediately perfect, I can at least narrow it down a lot more).

Coming home tonight, I came to a few conclusions about it, though I'm
not letting it get *too* clear in my mind - otherwise I know the
reality will never live up to the ideal. But the things I know are:
1) It has to represent the things about draconity that are most
important to me - freedom to fly and joy in life.
2) It doesn't have to be a literal image, and indeed I quite like the
idea of something more symbolic, but it has to make people think of
dragons and flight, one way or another.
3) If it *is* a literal image of a dragon, the dragon should be me,
not just a random dragon.
4) I'd like it to wrap around my arm, at least a bit - it should look
like something that belongs there, not like a flat picture being
forced onto a curved surface.
5) It has to have colour, preferably bold, vibrant colour (I know
there's only so much you can get from a tattoo, but still).
6) It has to be fairly big - I'm definitely not talking a whole-arm
tattoo here, but I want big enough to really stand out.'

She smiles at anyone patient/committed enough to have actually read
all that.

"Those six points really are the only thoughts I have on the matter.
I'm going to need to see some actual images before I can get anything
more definite in mind. Just, if you draw me something, please don't be
offended if in the end someone else does me a picture and I go with
that, or if I want to combine elements of different images. Whatever
you create will still be very special to me - but if it's going to be
permanent, it has to feel Right."

It's been slow and busy at turns. Seems to vary by the day. Most
exciting thing lately is a recent troll infestation. Haven't seen much
of them the past couple days however, so I'm guessing their IP's got
banned. ^_^ I got another promotion (and raise - hoarde stake!!!) at
work, and the KY/Midwest Gather's in process for its fifth year! We've
expanded to different otherkin too, and Furs are coming now! ^_^

Hello, and welcome back. No, I don't know you, but it's always nice to
see olde fruits returning. It makes the news group feel that much more
alive again, and it always happens at the best times, like you guys
KNOW when you're needed again. And I think that says something... As
for your tatoo thing, I don't know if I'll be able to help you there.
My artistic talents are mediocre at best, but occasionly I do manage
something beyond satisfactory and if I do, I'll let you know. Anyway,
enjoy your stay here, however short or long it may be.

Welcome Home, Hespa.
*Bows*
Although I do not believe we have actually met before.

And I'd do a tattoo for you, 1) if I considered myself good enough (I skimp
on the nitty gritty details, like scales n stuff (I'm too lazy)), and 2) if
did much in color.

'Lo friend Hespa. The edge of the map has been very quiet. Dragons sleeping
I guess.
A suggestion for a tattoo would be a flying dragon kite. Kites denote both
joy and flying and the tail of a kite could enwrap your arm to some degree.
Kites are also colorful. HTH!

I'm looking to get one done on my arm so it looks like a patch of skin
is torn off to expose the scales underneath, but so far I've had little
luck finding an ink pusher I'd trust with my precious hide.
