Monty Python reference in the hg2tg movie [message #35659] Sa, 14 Mai 2005 12:27
Lior
Hi, I'm sorry if this subject was brought up already, I tried searching
for it and didn't come up with anything relevant

I've read somewhere that sometime towards the end of the movie there's
a little homage to Monty Python.
Can anyone please tell me what it was?
I saw the movie and I don't recall such thing and it drives me nuts! :)

Thanks in advance,
Lior.

I've just watched it again, and could't spot anything that could be
construed as a tip-of-the-hat to the Python....Again, if it's subtle,
I'm likely to have missed it....

You mean, apart from that reference to "your mother was a hamster and your
father smelt of elderberries"? I forget what they turned it into; I've only
seen the film twice :)

I cannot remember anything even vaguely Python-esk. However that
doesn't mean it didn't exist - just very well hidden...

Cheers :-)

that point!

There was a definite one, I can't remember the specifics but it was "your
mother was a *** and your father smelt of ***" which is homage to the Holy
Grail movie.

It is in the Quandary Phase, first episode.

May even be in the film as well, but as I said earlier, I can't
remember any Python-esk references in the film - although that doesn't
prove that they weren't there.

Cheers :-)

When the Vogons are attacking at Arthur's home, a small group comes up
from behind. Ford chases them off with a towel and the leader calls out
"he's got a towel, run away! run away!" A moment later, Ford returns
(kind of like in Star Wars where Han runs brazingly after a small group
of Stormtroopers only to come running back) and locks the gate. The same
Vogon complains "he's locked the gate from the other side! We'll have to
go around."

That's probably the scene you were thinking of.

It was quite Pythonesque in its humour, but I can't think of any direct
Python references....

Well, the Dolphin Song is very Python-esque...

One possible direct Python reference is the one mentioned above (by Lior I
think)...

"[He's got a towel.] Run away! Run away!"

This seems somewhat reminiscent of a certain rabbit scene in Holy Grail?
