The trailer's out for Goblet of Fire - and it looks wicked! Methinks
they're capitalizing on the lessons learned from the last movie, and
exploring the darkness of the storyline as well.

I would like to point out that it is not dragons that star in this movie,
but wyverns. Didn't they read the "Monster Book of Monsters"? Or, heck,
even LOOK at the cover of the book (I think the UK version has a draggy on
the cover)?

They're dragons. They bring in four species of them specifically for
the story. Four legs, most winged, fire-breathing, and so on.

I know that there are four, but...
*Points to the one in the trailer.*
That one distinctly has no front legs.

You're applying the Dungeons & Dragons distinction between wyverns and
dragons, which is hardly universal. Dragons are often portrayed
without forelimbs in artwork -- and the closest one can come to an
official definition of wyverns, in medieval heraldry, has them lacking
/back/ legs.

I don't recall dragons ever being officially defined in the Potter
novels themselves, so unless you can cite me a reference, I maintain
500 years of tradition trumps Gygax & co. :)

They're described in detail in the charity book, "Fantastic Beats and
Where to Find Them" by JK Rowling. Every species has the full set of
legs.

Exactly. They WERE described as having 6 limbs, s I am alright to complain.

Yup, that reference will do. Now you mention it, I vaguely recall that
book and the accompanying Quidditch rules being announced, though I
never looked at them. Clearly to my detriment, in terms of sounding
authoritative about the Potter mythos. Doh. <:)

True enough, and I apologise for doubting you. Doesn't change the fact
that wyverns still have only forelimbs, though. >:)

What you said 'tis true, however, what is a hind-legged wyvern, if not a
wyvern?
Although Dictionaryy.com reports:
A two-legged dragon having wings and a barbed tail.
-or-
a fire-breathing dragon used in medieval heraldry; had the head of a dragon
and the tail of a snake and a body with wings and two legs.

A dragon with no forelimbs, which can be found in many sources
described as such.

Neither of these definitions actually contradicts what I was saying, of
course. They merely omit to mention the forelimb part. :D

At root, I think we simply need to accept that Hollywood mucks around

We also have to figure Rowling gave her approval on it, so it's not too
much of a departure from the overall intent of the story.

Still wish it were a true four-legged dragon!

True, I just was checking on the official definition, and by it we are both
right.

*Rolls his eyes*
Sure, they are, but then they had Reign of Fire not to long ago.
*WE* haven't had a decent hexapod since Dragonheart (or DH2 if that movie
was considered decent).

If we had the money and the talent, I'd be all for it. Unfortunately, I
don't have the money, nor the talent to do a cgi one. Although I do
have a sister who's trying to get into movies, so I'd be willing to ask
her to be in it, if we could make one.
