Obscure question about the new film..... [message #29769] So, 08 Mai 2005 20:48

In Arthur's house, there's a picture behind him on the wall, a photo of
two people next to each other.

I've been told one of them is David Dixon (Ford in the TV series?)

Is this true?

I didn't love the film, I wanted to though and I'm still trying, and
little things like knowing they went to the trouble of finding a Ford
Prefect car to nearly run over Mos Def in the flashback makes me warm
to the film. If they put a photo of David Dixon in the house too, I can
force myself to liek the film a bit more. Sad isn't it?

I found that, after seeing it opening weekend, then reading all the posts on
this newsgroup (positive and negative), that going to see it a second time
really helps. Saw it for the second time Saturday, and I enjoyed it much
more! I think it might be because I didn't have any expectations (of
grandeur or failure), and so was able to properly sit back and enjoy the
film. If we all did that, it might have beat "House of Wax" and come in #2
this weekend. I mean, come on, even if it wasn't the best movie, it got
beat by "House of Wax!?!?!"

Apathetic bloody planet! I've no sympathy at all!

Having searched the entire film for teh photograph you're referring to,
I managed to find only 2 scenes where Arthur is stood in front of a
photo on the wall....

The first one :
http://www.fixaphoto.co.uk/misc/HHGTG-01.jpg
seems to depict soem sort of tall building...

The second one :
http://www.fixaphoto.co.uk/misc/HHGTG-02.jpg
does indeed seem to show people, but none of them really look much like
David Dickson to me....I could be wrong of course, as the quality is a
bit pixelly...

I guess we'll have to wait for the DVD to come out so we can pause and
zoom in glass clear quality.....

I like David Dickson....It's weird, my favourite Ford is a sort of
Hybrid....

I like the appearance of David Dickson....Think he looks the way Ford
should....
I like Geoffery McGivern's audio portrayall....He has just that perfect
mix of manic insanity and detatched tinking....
And I liked Mos Def's mannerisms, and laid back easy going grin.....

If we could somehow combine the best elements of the three actors, we'd
have a pretty damn good Ford Prefect....

Well, pretty damn close to my interpretation of him anyway....

Hey, don't piss on House of Wax! Once I see it, it will be my favourite
movie (for the sole reason that that ***** Paris Hilton gets
graphically murdered in it.)

I was trying to sketch Ford today. Bloody impossible. You know how
hard it is to get that 'pulled back from the nose' look without looking
like Christopher Reeve?

Thanks for going to the trouble, those screenschots are superb.

The "family portrait" photo looks like Arthur with his parents, but I
can;t make out the Fathers face, that could be David I suppose....

I think I know where this rumour started though, this website -
http://www.planetmagrathea.com/february05.html

Says in the Feb 17th entry "17th February 2005
Douglas' ex expresses herself in the press
As mentioned yesterday, today's Daily Express has a half-page news
story about the movie, with the picture of Ford and Arthur in the house
ruins and, curiously, a small portrait of David Dixon"

I think someone misread it, thinking the small portrait was in Arthurs
house, when it was really in the Daily Express!!

Just checked that portion, and the only thing I could find was again,
the same family portrait hanging precariously on the wall...

My apologies...Although Dickson is also a common spelling of the name,
it's the wrong spelling in this situation...

My apologies to Nancy who I know likes David Dixon a lot, And also to Mr
Dixon himself if he happens to be looking in on us....
