Anyone understand bit torrents? When I try to download an ep of
Crossballs--or anything--it just seems to be downloading the shortcut and
not the actual file. I downloaded a couple clients, but neither seem to
work.

Okay first off, which clients have you used?
I personally use Shareaza to handle my BT downloads... it supports G1,
G2, and eDonkey, so it's like a jack of all trades (no, not master of
none... jeez...)
By "shortcut", what do you mean?
BitTorrents start by downloading a file with the extension .torrent.
That file basically contains the link to the tracker and some of the
hash, I believe. In any event, YES that file has to be downloaded. You
won't see a "Save As..." with the ACTUAL file. The actual file will be
downloaded when the .torrent is read by the client and the file is
tracked down.
Anyways, I don't know enough to type anything else that resembles
useful information. Hope that helped! :P

It seems to be just downloading the shortcut to the file and not the actual
file... The download goes by quickly and is just a few kb and not the
roughly 100 MB it should be.
I really don't know what I'm doing, but would really like to be able to
watch the Crossballs eps since they don't air anymore and I never saw them
and they sound like they were funny and I like funny things... I'd kinda
like to hear the Get a Life soundtrack too. I
Thanks for helping. I'll try Shareaza...

What you've probably got is the torrent file. What you need to do now
is get a bittorrent client (and yes, I also use Shareaza), and then you
should be able to open that torrent file and have it start downloading
the actual file.

I didn't realize I had to have the client open and then open the file...
Got it now. But the file is only going at 2 Kbps! Tried another and that
is 35 Kbps... Guess mileage varies...

Very much so...And a file that's downloading at 2kbps now could suddenly
accellerate to 30/40kbps in a matter of minutes....Or it might stop
suddenly and not resume again for a fortnight....
P2P downloading is never an exact science, but so long as you have
plenty of patience, the results can be very pleasing....I refer to my
accidental download of a 700mb porn movie....LOL

Mileage DOES vary, but so does ratio.
The more you upload, the more you download. BitTorrent works sorta like
that.
It was silly of me not to ask, but have you installed the BitTorrent
"main files" prior to using a client?
If not, download the BitTorrent files at: http://www.bittorrent.com/

I'm not sure!

speaking of which, having a cable modem has not changed my life the way I
thought it would... still haven't gotten an ep of Cross balls, though one
file got up to 10%...

geez, it estimates still another 10 hours to get the first ep of Cross
Balls... I thought a cable modem would change my life... The Internet
disappoints, yet again.

Probably more a case of unreasonable expectations. Why not try WinMX?

WinMX is basically all pr0n...
What you need is DC++, join a hub that best suits the nature of your
search, ask the members of the hub or do a search for the file.

In the two thousand and fifth year of Bob, Ramin's voice said the following,
in wonderful perfect quadrophonic sound with distortion levels so low as to
make a man weep:
> WinMX is basically all pr0n...
You ever used the custom networking thingies? My mate swears by 'em -
apparently you can use it to connect to other P2P networks, such as KaZaA.
And if you think WinMX is all pr0n, try Kazaa. It's worse. Believe me. I
know. I'm a 16 year old male. :-)
