| recovering from computer withdrawel... [message #27673] |

Oi... just got my computer back from four days in the repair shop, in
case anyone noticed my brief dissapearance. It runs faster and the
graphic resolution is sooo much better, but i lost all of my carefully
organized bookmarks!
I noticed we have a newcomer! I'm glad I'm not the newest member
anymore, but I'm not sure why that fact makes me happy... Huh. Well
anyway, hello.
Hmm... I didn't actually have much to say in this post, so I think I'll
finish it off with one of my poems that I've been waiting almost
shamelessly to show off, if no one minds... ^///^
I'll use the one that is related the closest to AFD, I guess.
A Dragon's Wish
A faint blue glow awakens me
I step outside so I may see
The first light of day, foggy and still
The soft wind carries in a slight chill
My eyes are blurred by a pleasent mist
I hold out my hand to feel its sweet kiss
Dewdrops form on my hair and skin
This is the best time to be a dragon
Without a second thought I spread my wings
>From behind, a long tail springs
Two horns on my head like a silver cap
Yet the fog doesn't swirl when my emerald wings flap
My tail swings, but can't touch the grass
And straight through my hair the silver horns pass
I raise my head and stare at the sky
More then anything, I wish I could fly
Over the pastel clouds I would sail
With dragon claws, scales, wings, and tail
I'd dive and dance in the morning light
Spinning and whirling, forgetting my plight
I'd sing a dramatic mystical tune
Lift my head and roar my joy to the moon
Alas, it's only a fantasy
I think it will never come to be
You see, I am dragon only in spirit
And so never shall I fly, I fear it
I'm still here standing in my front yard,
The sky now shining with rainbow shards
As wind spirits play in my golden hair
I reluctantly return to my lair.

I am guilty of that as well. I have 300 gig of ghosts, backups and
restore points; and it never fails that when I rebuild, reconfigure or
recover from crash I never seem to have an upto date bookmarks or
outlook...

300GB O.o How big is your harddisks??? I'd have ghost by harddrive as
well, but I just don't wanna pay for dozens of CDs to backup all of
them :( I have three computer however and two of them linked together
all the time, so I just keep synchronizing datas between the two. And
once in a few month or two I'll write all my data files to CDs.

Heheh, you should have seen my poor little brother. He's still
homeschooled, as I was until highschool, and as far as I know, he
spends as much of the day as he can on the internet, usually playing
Warcraft. He gets moody when I ask for a turn in the afternoon, even
after he's played all day. He was miserable without the comp.
I'm so glad you liked the poem! I would like to say that I don't care
what others think of me, but I'm afraid it's just not true...

I gave up long ago to pt these larger files onto cd's. They now reside
on raid array disks. My main workstation has a single 120 gig.
The server houses the most drives. It's primary is only a 4 gig (OS
and programms only) a 20gig (pagefile, programs files runnover,
temporary junk staorage), a 60 gig (internal house FTP and Web site,
CD images that are shared sever virtual drives). The house audio/video
multimedia computer (the one i have attached to my 65inch high defTV)
houses all the movies and MP3 and an 80gig. I have several 40 gig's
laying arround that have backups on them. The main backups reside on a
few 120 gig drives that are currently not in a machine but will be
moved into the server via a hardware raid card.

I went 7 MONTHS without mine. And I still don't have it, but I do have a
comparable laptop.
Sometime in the next three weeks is the 1 year anniversary.

It's setting on a big desk in the 'business/storage' room right next
to the vertical wiring rack that hold the networking router, dsl, phone
patch panel and tv antenna amplifier/splitter.
I wired my house :)
every room has at least one wall jack containing two cat5, two cat3,
and one coaxial. They all run back to the rack. Nice and centralized
just like it should be :)

It's good that you have your computer back. Was starting to wonder where you
were.

Hi there! Yes we do get some newcomers here. I've found this place to be
resonably active. Though it does get idle from time to time.

Excellent poem. It reminds me alot about when I would go out flying through the
sky exploring new lands. It is a very interesting poem. Have you been writting
poems long? Just curious since I sometimes write poems too.
