I really loved this film....

Brilliant....I alomost cried when they played Journey of the Sorcerer...

I thought the casting was great, and found the plot changes to be
refreshingly different, rather than blasphemous.....

I can't wait for a sequel....

You're not alone by a big margin. I loved it, and I actually said "Yes!
There it is!" aloud when Journey of the Sorcerer started.

I'd like to complement you again on not paying a bit of heed to the
naysayers.

I agree 100%

Why thank you :-)

I loved the moment, just before the earth got destroyed, where the scene
cuts back to the inside of the pub, and everyone is lying down on the
floor with paper bags over their heads....
Priceless....

No youre not Fat Sam, I'd like to join this little love-in and say I agree
with all the posts so far. It was a great film and the extra new bits eg
bags on heads, queueing to fill in the forms etc. were excellent.

I noticed it said the screenplay was co written by DNA, I wonder how many of
the marvellous new bits were actually thought up by Douglas?

Maybe the 'Naysayers' were just wanting a verbatim regurgitation of the book

I liked it too. All of the performers were great (except Anna Chancellor)
and I felt Douglas' voice still there (he's probably getting a big bang out
of the fan community's commotion in the afterlife :-), and I'm off to see it
again in two days.

Martin Freeman was the best surprise of all. I'd really wanted Jack
Davenport but Martin played Arthur as much less posh, less inept but still
an everyman and that's all Arthur needs to be, he's much better like that in
this day and age.

Mos Def was really funny as Ford and he made me laugh on several occasions
(my favorite Ford bit was Zaphod shooting him with the POV Gun, my friend
Brian's favorite part was him pushing the shopping cart full of beer and
peanuts down the hill to Arthur's house).

Sam's Zaphod was different but Sam played him extremely well and with his
whole brain in tact in the sequel, I expect the emphasis will be back on his
coolness if RATEOTU happens.

I even liked the love story (and Zooey, which surprised me since she annoyed
the piss out of me in the leaked clips) because it wasn't sentimental and
mushy.

Interesting P.S. My friend Brian who went with me didn't know anything about
the story except what I told him. Big fan of Mos Def, he praised him to me
when I told him he got the part of Ford and I was worried because he looked
at times like he wasn't enjoying it, but by the time our butts got back up,
he was raving to me about how great the movie was and how funny the actors
were. Amazing, isn't it?

I saw it yesterday. I went with trepidation, mainly due to the negative
reviews here and on other sites (I respect those views too), and my fears
were put to the sword. I liked, though not loved, the movie.

I was disappointed by only three characters: Ford; Deep Thought; and
Trillian, though Trillian has grown on me since the viewing and reviewing of
the movie's motivation. Ford though was underplayed, his lines hacked and
mumbled. Helen Mirren could have been given better lines.

I thought the addition of Hummas was interesting and opens a new vista in
the sequels.

I'll see it again.

I agree with this criticism. Ford should have been a little less worried
and a little more fun-loving. And Mirran's acting talent was really wasted
in this film, but I suspect what we witnessed was a role reduced by editing
and that we'll be seeing much more of her in the sequels. I didn't mind the
female voice at all for Deep Thought, and I thought her spending 10 million
years since the creation of Earth watching cartoons was a great gag; the
computer version of hanging it all and finding something to keep itself
busy.

I *did* cry when they played that. That was one of the bits I
absolutely loved - it was effing AWESOME. God, that bit was great. I
also liked the bit where Zaphod sweeps Trillian away - God, Sam Rockwell
hit that on the HEADS! Arthur's face during the poetry reading was
pretty amusing too (though Ford's was the most amusing, I was giggling
during that part).

The simple fact of the matter is, anyone who doesn't realize the truth of
what you're saying simply never "got" the point of the series in the first
place. They didn't understand the characters, they didn't understand the
atmosphere, they didn't understand the charm. It really is as simple as
that.

Everyone who DID get it - and there are many, many thousands of us - HATES
the movie.

So what? Who cares? Find something you do like and watch the hell out of
it. Give it a watching it will never forget.

Why waste time badgering people who did like the movie? What a pointless,
mindless, hateful thing. You do realize you don't get this time back to
live over? Once you've wasted it, it's gone for good. You could be feeding
the hungry or sheltering orphans or saving puppies and baby seals.

Just so you're square on the point, not all who've visited your site hated
the movie. I visited just to see what you've got going on, and it isn't
much, is it?

Life goes on. Let it.

You are not alone. Whilst I didn't think it was perfect (mainly because
it couldn't possibly be perfect), I loved it all the same.

Not everyone will love it. But I don't understand why a certain portion
of those who hated it seem to be shouting louder than anyone else and
implying that anyone who loved it is "wrong".

There is no right or wrong here. You either love it or you hate it, in
varying degrees. I wish people would just make their own mind up and
let others do the same.

I'd hate for people to get the wrong idea about my feelings on the
matter because - well you all seem like such lovely people. Since I'm a
vocal 'anti' person, let me explain some things about my stance:

- I don't care if you like it, I'm glad for you if you do.
- I might be harsh in my criticisms but I'm only airing my opinions, I'm
not expecting people to agree
- I might debate with those people about the movie and violently
disagree with them, but I still actually respect their opinions. Even
if I disagree and say "No, it's not funny", I think it's totally cool
that you do.

Because it is, after all, only a movie. *nods* Right, glad to get that
off my chest.

Nancy - please don't think that my comment was aimed at you, because it
definately wasn't. You are among the few "anti" people who seem to
respect that other people will have different opinions from yours.

My comment was aimed at those who have said things along the lines of
"the movie sucks - don't go and see it" and "if you liked the movie you
must be stupid because it was really bad". You have never gone down
that road.

I hear you Nacy....I personally fully enjoyed the film, and intend to
fully enjoy it another couple of times over the next few weeks....
However, I understand that some people will dislike it....I know some
people will only partially dislike it, and I know that some people will
be indifferent to it....
I'm cool with that....
Every single one of us is different, has different tastes, different
expectations, and different ideas <slap> of what made HHGTG great....

One thing I would never ever do is attempt to force my opinion on others
saying things like "If you hated this film, then you aren't intelligent
enough to understand what it was all about".....

And I appreciate the fact that you don't take this stance from the other
viewpoint....

To be honest, this would be a pretty dull newsgroup if everyone held the
same opinion of the film....I think we'd see a deluge of threads that read:-

>>>> I hated the film
>>> I agree
>>So do I
>Me too

There would be no healthy debate, and the group would die....

We need differing opinions....That's why it's wrong for some people to
demand we all hate the film, simply because it wasn't their cup of tea....

Kudos to you Nacy, for expressing your opinions on the film in a
non-dictatorial manner, which has ultimately been conducive to continued
healthy debate....

I may not entirely agree with all your opinions on the film, but I 100%
support your opinions on debate and discussion....

Yep, here's another idiot (me) who liked the movie. Just thought I'd
add my name to the list. haha! :-) And yes, I read the books and heard
the radio show, and still liked the movie. (ducking from the
flame-thrower).

You know, it is a new and disturbing trend brought on by the internet
that gloomy gusses feel completely empowered to say all sorts of
negative things and say them often. They revel in being bullies in
cyberspace since they can't in real life. Most nice folk just stay
away from these skurmishes because it just isn't worth getting flamed
all the time. But actually building a web site with the promise of
never allowing another HG2G to be made is just rude. To me, I question
how you could be real fans yourselves, and think that THAT is what DNA
would be rolling in his grave for rather than the movie itself.

Yep, I enjoyed the hell out of the movie, too.

I've been a fan since discovering the books in middle school. I've read
them all four times since then. Not that I give a crap about
establishing my "cred' on the issue. Back in the day, I knew almost no
one esle who knew about HHGG, so I didn't become a fan to impress anyone
about how "with it" I was. I just enjoyed the books, and found them
amusing and occasionally brilliant.

The movie replicates those impressions well enough, and pardon me if I
don't care about being "too cool for the room" in saying that I thought
the did a good job of adapting this oddball material to the big screen.

Life is short, you know? If you're too stuck up to enjoy a freaking
movie, then there's something wrong.

Thanks. Movies are like chemical reactions between people and perfume -
sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. You can't say that perfume is
gross because it might smell perfectly good on someone else, you know?

So yeah. I respect everyone here :)

Nancy.

Know what? I have the radio series, books, video series, computer game,
and computer game hint book. My copy of "Mostly Harmess" is signed by
Douglas. These objects, of course, would have no worth if I didn't
actually enjoy them, and repeatedly.

I've been "getting it" for about a quarter century.

And I really enjoyed the movie. Laughed out loud in the theater.
Appreciated the applause at the end of it. Was happy to see that what
made it in, made it in. Enjoyed almost all of the additions.

Do I have gripes? Sure. But why should I let them spoil an otherwise
enjoyable 102 minutes?

"Simple fact"? "Everybody"?

Go stick your head in a pig.
