Well, I've booked my seats for tomorrow's 17:45 showing in Norwich UCI....
Went for the Gallery service as usual, as you get treated like a real
VIP that way....
A nice comfortable waiting lounge with a licensed bar (and you can take
wine, beer, or spirits through to the auditorium with you). As much free
popcorn, nachos, soft drinks, tea and coffee as you can consume.
Individual service where the staff come and usher you directly to your
seats and help you to carry your food and drinks. And the seats are
twice as big and ten times as comfortable as the normal auditorium seats.
It costs a little bit extra, but it's worth it for that extra luxury...
Are there any surprizes or extra bits at the end of the credits with
this film?....I always stay to the end of the credits anyway, just in
case, as lots of films include little extra bits at the end....

There's a Guide entry halfway through the credits - not sure if there's
anything else right at the very end of the credits though.

The bit 1/2 way through was the only extra bit when I saw it.

And it has no logical reason to be in the credits.
It's as if they realized they had forgotten to stick it in. Like everything
else in the movie, it was just slapped together.
M.J. Simpson had it sooooo nailed in his much-maligned review.

Simpson should have done us and himself a big favor and kept his opinion to
himself. It's obvious from reading his extended review that he was
completely burnt out on the Guide by the time he finally saw the movie.
Some what he says is true, but not most of it. It certainly could have been
a better movie, yes, but it wasn't the absolute trash he describes by a long
way. Frankly, he exited the wonderful world of DNA in the worst possible
way, a real embarrassment to his entire career.

No, comedies quite often will have a random scene stuck in during the
credits.

Simpson DID us all a HUGE favor by his laser-sharp analysis of this piece of
absolute, unadulterated crap.
I had never read his review, or known about all the controversy, until after
I saw the movie... and I found that, time and again, he EXACTLY put my
thoughts into words. He was 100% right about every single thing he said.
He was right, he was EXACTLY right, and he will remain right. Once the
initial buzz dies down, this will be remembered as one of the worst films of
all time.

If you actually think this is going to be remembered as one of the worst
movies of all time, you obviously haven't watched a lot of movies, don't
know much about film, or are having a purely emotional reaction. This is
nowhere near one of the worst of all time.
I agree that Simpson seems burnt out on H2G2. That is one of the most
nitpicky reviews I have ever seen. Getting mad because a word or two was
cut from some of his favorite scenes (ie the deletion of a word or two
during the poetry scene), or because a line or two was added (ie the
whale saying "Hello Ground") Most of the jokes still work, and the ones
that don't really weren't made for a visual medium. Take Zaphod's two
heads it didn't work on TV and it didn't work on film. It's not a joke
that's going to work well because even with todays technology one head
is ALWAYS going to look fake.
I think Simpson knew going into the movie he was going to hate it and
that influenced his opinions. I feel that way about a lot of the people
around here as well. They went in thinking "It changed the
book/radio/stage/tv version so it can't be good. There is no way I'm
going to like this movie." It's obvious that the General Public at large
liked it and that is probably what's most important.

There's not a lot to add to what Doc has already said. I agree especially
that some old time fans carried a preconceived notion of their own reaction
to the movie, and that's really too bad for them.
And, once you've hired a URL like Sundog's, you've pretty much locked in
your opinion and are forced to take cognitive dissonance to a new level.

Lately Bush has been offering to solve the problem of higher gas
prices by "building more oil refineries." I'm missing the logic of that.
Since when does building cookie factories cure a grain shortage?

APart from the fact that it was a fun piece, designed to keep people in
their seats until the credits had rolled....Most movies nowadays put
something fun or interesting in the trailers nowadays....It's their way
of persuading people to stay back and read the credits....That way all
the minor players in the cast and crew get recognition too....
As for it having no logical reason, It was simply a fun tip-of-the hat
to a guide entruy from episode 4 of the TV series....Almost a verbatim
copy of it, except in the TV series, Arthur uttered the words "I seem to
be having some difficulty with my lifestyle"....

I'm glad to say I haven't done that. I got the book from a Scientology
activist at the LA Book Faire, and it was so fat I never got around
to opening it. Then when the movie came out I got a great 333 degree
(or so) hologram of a guy with dreadlocks and parked it at page 147
of the book. I just pulled it out to see the hologram thingie again,
and it still looks intruiging. And all I've read this time is the spine
and page number. Excuse me while I go put it back on the shelf...

Actually, the book's a pretty good read. Not profound or difficult, just
entertaining. The movie, on the other hand, is complete trash. One of the

Yeah, I'll second that. It's not a masterpiece, and you do need pretty
robust hands to hold the thing for any length of time, but it's
entertaining in its way and keeps on going at a pace.
