Was the HHGG theme tune (Journey of the Sourcerer by the Eagles) re-recorded
for the BBC ?
There sometimes seems to be some extra bits used which I don't recognise
from the original - then again I could be imagining it.

Yes, it was re-record. See this link for one authority of many regarding the
theme (you many need to cut and paste):

Uhm, no it was not. At least if we're talking about the radio series. It
was rerecorded for the LP and TV versions, though.

We did not make ourself clear. We thought the citation was self-explanatory
and meant that it was re-recorded for the TV and LP versions. Looking back
at our first reply, we were not specific enough. Thank you for putting the
