CG dragons [message #23986] Sa, 30 April 2005 00:27

Was browsing the web and Googled for something. I stumbled on something
unexpected: a page with short 3D animated videos. And in one of them there
are dragons.

http://www.siggraph.org/publications/video-review/sig2003/14 5.shtml

Look at video #11, we can see a cute dragon family. The download link only
gives a short 5 second of the full video. The dragons look really good and
the animation is fluid. But if you search "Ritterschlag" on the P2P Edonkey
network, you will find it. Unfortunatly, I've reached my bandwidth limit
this month. I won't be able to download it until Monday.

PS: I would like to thank Draklor for hosting the Animal Planet dragon
documentary.

Yeah, for some dark reasons I can't open it directly from the browser. I
have to save it before. Yes, it's just a trailer, but the full version is
available on the P2P eDonkey. Try eMule or Shaaraza and search for
"Ritterschlag". You'll find it, it's there. Or try one of these links if you
already have eMule or Shaaraza installed:

You're welcome. I'd like to appologise that it's not up anymore, my
laptop died, and I was hosting it from there. But now, it looks like
I'll soon be hosting this from my desktop. You know... as soon as I get
my claws on it and download the FTP software. I'll let you all know as
soon as I have it.

Today's computers aren't that reliable as 10 years ago. My Antec 430w
True power PSU died 2 days ago while I was sleeping. It wasn't even 2
years old. I opened the dead beast and found out the cause of the
death: leaking and bulged out capacitors. Should be able replace them
easily.

Still seeing bad caps from that whole bad cap thing...
Have three motherboards at work that are getting ready to pop. the
caps are all swollen...they still work for now, but one day...Foom...
They have been moved down into the less important tasks from print
servers to salesman's workstations, so no big loss if they go +pop+

BTW eMule and eDonkey are the same thing. I entered my info for eDonkey and
when I found out that I needed to pay them $20 for the free download I went
and found eMule. The page was nearly identicle and the signup had my info
already typed in. It was $20 for the free download as well.

Now Shaaraza I can't find at all...
Oop, nevermind, found a link to it in a THE ONE link that came up on Google.
*Looks at page*
Wait...you can download Shaaraza via Shaaraza? Now that's just strange...
(I know, I know, it's the upgrade to 2.1, but still...)
Oh good, THIS one really is free. Thank you open source software.

I know of several items of equipment I maintain that suffer from cruddy
caps.
It seems that either dodgy batches are more common or designers (probably
with computer aided design) are taking things closer and closer to the limit
so that when the need comes for slack there isn't any. That and ventilation
is rotten so caps dry out.
When you replace 'em be sure to fit 105 deg instead of 85 deg and check all
the joints that will have dried....

430W seems a little ...wimpy BTW....

Thanks for the tip, I'll keep it in mind when shopping for parts. I'll
clean the PSU too, because it's a little dusty there.

> 430W seems a little ...wimpy BTW....

430w, not that much wimpy. Got Athlon 2600, ASUS A7N8X Deluxe (2 NICs,
Sound, SATA Controller), 56k Modem, 7200 RPM IDE HD, 7200 RPM SATA HD,
DVD-RW, DVD-ROM, CD-RW, USB Mouse, USB Webcam, USB Printer, PS/2
Keyboard, the Radeon 9800 Pro, 2 DDR Memory sticks and 3 case fans.

I used this calculator to check and my computer max consumption goes
around 375 watts.
http://www.jscustompcs.com/power_supply/
So, a 430w PSU is a safe bet just in case I plug more USB devices, HDs
or optical drives.

Oh that! That's why the pic felt real familiar. And yeah...I'd love to
see it whole, but I doupt it'll ever be done. It look kinda so much

I hand full of years ago, capacitor company X stole the electrolite
formula from Rubicon, only to find out a year later that they left a
key ingreidient out of the mix. They severly undercut the price of
Rubicon so thier faulty caps got put in almost all consumer
electronics. The caps failed mostly in power circuits of motherboards
and powersupplies and dvd players. A few motherboard manufacturers
have extended the warentee rapair period of the mother boards for the
years that the bad caps were used, they don't activly publicise the
issue. If you buy replacement caps, make sure they are Rubicon, they
make the best.

Um...neither of those two links got me anywhere last night. I've had it
searching for about 15 hours now (as well as a search for Ritterschlag).
I've got nuffink.

You sometimes has to connect to another neighbours. Neighbours with
low "Leaves" count usually don't give big search results. In Shareaza,
I press F11, right-click on the yellow neighbour (eDonkey2k network)
and select disconnect. It automaticly connects to another neighbour.

I'm at 323 Watts. I don't know what my PS is, but it hasn't crapped out
yet, so..... But that also didn't give me the option of my HT 2.8GHz
Intel processor, so I don't know if it's possibly more.....

I've just got 32 sources for it, all eMule (oh well, I hate that! It's

Ah, thankies. I have 1 result, but it's a PDF file, so it isn't what I'm

Hmmm... I think I've seen something like that before... It look a lot like
the "preview" for a new 3D video game that came out a short time ago... But
if they made a short feature film starring the dragon family, I wouldn't
mind owning a copy of it... {:8)

Would they know if there are any DVDs of the show on sale, and where to find
them? *looks hopeful*

Of course, that calculator only looks at total wattage; there's also each
individual rail to worry about. I recall a friend's new computer frying a
(cheapo) 400W PSU but running perfectly stably on a 300W unit, just because
the 400W unit hardly output anything on the +5V rail.

I am now convinced that the PSU is the most important part of the computer,
and never skimp on it...of course, I also managed to have a 430W Antec
flake out on me, despite the fact that my machine needs nowhere near that
amount of power... ]:-8/

Not the one I got. It's like the screen of an MP3 player, just flashing
black and white, trying to get you to go to the site to download MP3s,
no doubt at an outrageous expense.

The other one, though, should be the full thing, if it ever
downloads.....

Anything electronic (or any other thing, for that matter) is now built
to die, so they can make more money on you buying more of them. I
remember a TV my grandfather had, it was 60 years old, and it still
worked fine, whereas a TV bought today would last prolly 5 years before
crapping out.....

Same. Although the first link did give me a different file than I already
had in my queue (not sure if the second one added to the same new one or the
old one).
I will wait and see if sources appear.

The TV my parents have is older than I am, I'm sure of it. Still no
problems of any kind.
The even older TV they had wasn't built to have a roof antenna or cable (the
roof antenna output to a coaxial cable), so it had an extra bit attached
onto it, and screwing that piece on and off so many times finally broke the
plastic a few years ago. And we still have the TV because it still works.

Thanks for the help guys.... errr, can I call you "guys"?

Finally, replacing the caps wasn't enough. Shortened the green wire
with ground to test PSU... nothing. Maybe that semi-conductor with a
big heat-sink screwed on it? Hmmm, nah. I don't have the tools to test
stuff. I let it that way and bough an Alpha 420w 2 fans. Around 40 USD
total and the noise is good.

We used to have one like that. A VHF/UHF splitter from the external
antenna so the TV could get the right channels in the right place.....
