I'm New [message #23971] Fr, 29 April 2005 14:34
Al Phi
Hi. I'm a little bit nervous, since this is my first post. I haven't
posted to anything before, and I just heard of alt.fan.dragons about
four days ago. Well, I'm now genuinely interested.

Just so you know a bit about my real life self, I'm a
fifteen-year-old male freshman in high school. I am a pretty good
student, I mostly get all A's. I'm currently in all Advanced Placement
classes. I am also in the Gifted Program, not to mention winning the
science fair this year. I'm almost too good with computers, as well. That
pretty much makes people think I'm some kind of super-genius, although I
do not think of myself as quite that smart myself. My interests include
computers and programming, video games, drawing, and camping and hiking
(I'm in Boy Scouts), and many other things.

I got interested in this NG right when I heard about it, because I had
always been interested in dragons, and all fantasy-type things. I used to
stare at the sky and imagine flying through the clouds. (I think someone
else had that habit) But it has caused me to zone out more than once,
especially because I was so "good" that I didn't even need to /see/ the
clouds anymore, I could just imagine them. And I couldn't get caught
looking too long, or people would think I had a mental disorder. I have
discovered my "draconity" quite a while ago, but if I told my parents, I'm
sure they would freak out. Not to mention I'm Catholic. Even though it's
not against my religion, many Catholics believe dragons are symbols of the
devil (of course /I/ don't). Only my little brother heard I had any
connection with dragons, and he was six when I told him. Well, I don't
have to worry about my parents, for they are not technically-inclined, and
they have not heard of Usenet at all, except for when I mentioned it. They
use Windows and are 'satisfied' with nothing more (I personally use Linux).

Well, thats about all there is I can tell you, because I'm almost out of
time. I'm sorry I wrote this so hurriedly. I like when I am able to
correct some things and clarify, but I have to go to school now.

Thanks. I saw Arcaton's message while I was at school (I used Google
Groups). I didn't have but about a minute to look, so I didn't have time
to post. Anyway, it was a long and busy day today at school. If I wrote
all about it, it would probably take up way too much space. The gist of it
was that I was running to and from classes, going back and forth way
more than I could take it. My computer class - which I have to help
teachers out with computer problems - made it even worse. I also had a
meeting after school for a national FBLA conference after school.

So, I guess I have 'officially' de-lurked?

Real life has a bad habit of impinging on our computer time, I'm

Gee, thanks. I have cooked with Dutch Ovens quite a bit. It's pretty
interesting what you can cook in them-just about anything you can in an
oven. Its a lot better than just cooking on gas stoves. My scout troop had
a cookout and made pizza (very small) and peach cobbler (like Dump Cake,
but we have a special ingredient) in some Dutch Ovens. Well, glad to hear
from someone else with an interest in scouting. };=8)

Officially, Alfandria is just the MUCK, rather than the whole
community. Many refer to the newsgroup as Alfandra, and before that it
was the Dominance of Dragons. But at some point, the signpost for the
place had so many names written over the top of it that the only
letters left legible were xgrmpflmprxyzzz.

As that's what the signpost said, that was clearly what the place was
called. I believe the discussion (many years ago, now) can still be
found in Google Groups. :)

You're welcome, and to answer your question, I have yet to meet a

matter, who does not like steak. So, I figured it was a safe bet...

In the grand scheme of things, before everything got intermangled, there
were 3 names for 3 separate places. I still see them as such:

Alfandra was the newsgroup, alt.fan.dragons.
Alfandria was the MUCK
#afd was the DALNet chat room, which has since died (DALNet, not the
chat room)

Oh, and for those interested, I still have Greffindel the Plaid's "AFD

try to get it out to you if you like. It's 1,806,434 bytes, so I won't
be able to e-mail it, but I can send you the e-mail address of my MSN
account and send it there..... Also, if enough people request it of me,
I'll reinstall ICQ and offer it from there.

I've never had anything out of a dutch oven (other than your virtual
dump cake). So remember this the next time you take a turn to the down
side: you need to keep going just to show me the value of a dutch

I've never strait up said it to my parents. My mom knows (I think my sister
figured it out first though). I don't mind, it does make things like, "I
need a ride to Anthro Con" or "Can you make me a tail?"

I'll be a Linux user myself...once my desktop works again (Long story).

Ah, well you see, when you cook steak, or anything you need to fry or
sear the outside first, you do so on the lid. turned upside down with
coals underneath. I have also done pancakes ,crepes and grill cheese
sandwiches this way. I not kid when I say I can cook anything in a
dutch oven :)

Take a guess. };=3)

It's "coccyx," FYI.
Um...No. Not sure what you mean anyway.
The tail has a thick wire down it for support (and based on the usage so
far, I need a thicker wire), and some pseudo-leather straps quick-sowed on
and used like a belt, it wraps about the wire some. There's also a bit of
cardboard at the base-end to hold all the fluff in and it rests on my bum.
