The Film-My thoughts [message #23641] Sa, 30 April 2005 23:03

Have mused over this for days now.
Still can't decide
There was much that was wildly inaccurate.
Much that contradicted every other version of HHGG, up to and including
itself.
Hmmm.
I don't think I actually like it but I think it was good.
I reckon the problem is one of perspective.
To the average strag, the film would have made no sense (eg the group of
guys near me in the cinema who laughed at anything that was blatantly silly
or slapstick) and therefore would not be a good experience.
To a casual HHGG observer (eg my wife who has read the books once and seen
the TV series once also) it was interesting but would have to be seen again
to *get* everything.
Lastly, froods like myself and, of course, your good selves, dear fellow
froupians, we all dislike it in various ways because they didn't have such
and such and they changed so and so's line about blah de blah.
Let's face it guys, we were never gonna be entirely happy with it.
I have came to the conclusion that, if this film makes even one more person
pick up the books, buy the TV show on DVD or listen to the radio shows, then
it's a job well done. For only in numbers can we be strong.

PS I got a wage rise on the same day the film came on UK release- a three
sevenths increase. As a crude percentage thats 42%. How improbable is that?

Out of millions of people that work in this world, it was likely some of
those people would get raises on that day, and also likely that some of
those people would get a wage that in some way related to the number 42.
The improbability is that it was you ;)

Who knows, perhaps exactly 42 people did?
