I remember around the time of the Tertiary Phase, a few posts popped up here
in reply to posts made about the show, by people who never realised that the
Radio 4 series had started - one such post was after it had ended!!!
"Whoo...wha....there was a new radio series!?" [and so on]. :)
So I thought I'd remind people that the new series, the Quandary Phase,
begins on Tuesday night, 3rd May, on BBC Radio 4 (6pm...I think).
Enjoy! (or not - those who never liked the excellent Tertiary Phase probably
won't!). ;)
Regards, all.

Sorry for any inconvenience caused.
It does make me feel happy, but I can't see why you should die over it.

Ahaaaaa...Tuesday night....
Also starting on Tuesday night on BBC1 at 9-pm is the first episode of
the TV series....
Looks like the Beeb are cashing in on the publicity generated for the
film....Who can blame them?...After all, it all started with them, and
it if it wasn't for the BBC, we probably wouldn't all be here chatting
in this newsgroup....

Yes, we often dis the BBC - what with the politics of it all. They deserve
to be 'bigged up' now and then. God bless Auntie - and thanks for HHGTTG!!!
And yes, you're right...who can blame them for milking the buzz surrounding
it? :)
I'm like a kid at Christmas - The movie, the TV series (which I have on DVD,
but oh well!) and a new radio series....all in one week!
Cheers.

I decided to dig out my old VHS tapes of the original series....They
were the official BBC release from around 10-15 years ago....I could
only find the first tape...I suspect the second one got lost in one of
my many house-moves in that time (the perils of having been in the armed
forces)....When I put the first tape in to watch it, the quality had
degraded so badly, I felt like crying....
I can see a purchase of the entire series on DVD on the horizon....

Heh. Nice thought, some problems:
- Don't have RealPlayer, Not gonna get it neither.
- Tediously slow dial-up connection.
On the plus side:
It's part of the added excitement of the venture - get the missus to
instigate recording the program off the radio whilst I'm getting home
from work, and then the anticipation of having it there, ready to
play, but waiting waiting waiting until Sunday morning's breakfast to
have a listen. Makes the in-between part of the week more enlivened
with energy.

What do you mean "_even_ for you"? ;)
We've got a radio/cassette/CD-player thingy on the shelf near the
kitchen door. It no longer plays CDs (has a tendency to go "er. ..
what? What's *is* this thing supposed to be? Nope, there's no way I'm
playing that!"), but the radio does work, and it can record onto
cassette. Does the job.

Also, a casette tape would take pretty long to come to Scorpius, even
with light-speed. I guess it is not possible that a casette would
reach Scorpius by now unless it traveled through some wormhole. Or had
some really strange stuff like improbability drives or so.
If a casette would not be able to reach Scorpius, then how should the
digital superhighway, which was started after cassette tapes? Highways
usually take an awful long time to build...

No. Should we? It is a bypass for christs sake! ;o)
Well, should we send the cassette by mail instead of building the

You are, of course, quite right. On a slightly different note: I
achieved more Uncle-ness just recently - my brother and his partner
provided the world with a little baby girl two weeks ago.

Sticks in the mud that we are, we like the "craning over in the
kitchen" trying to listen to the tape machine-a-thingy. It was good
enough in our day, and it's good enough now, dammit!

It's a well-known fact that even if you took all the computers in the

You can have mine. I do not use it.

I can make that, when I have read a little about it.
Oh, if I stop halfways in my coffee-making, I could end up with
boiling water. I I split it up in two, I'll both have for my coffee
and your boiled water.

Ah, that is the way, we could get thing to Lloyd. Sending him bad
news along with the radio broadcasts.

Then we must build bigger computers not hooked to the internet, so we

If the bad news is relevant to me, then I'd rather know it than not
know it.
If the bad news is someone else's bad news that's really
inconsequential to me, then I'm not consequenced by getting it. Or
something.
Does that make my position adequately non-obvious?

But, I guess you would not want to have us make bad news relevant to

Oh. So we could find some irrelevant bad news and make it speed up the
travel time for the cassette...
> Does that make my position adequately non-obvious?
Actually I am not entirely aware of where you are. Also this actually
was something about sending a digital higway to another galaxy or
something. I do not really think you are there, so this is utterly
insignificant. Oh well, a lot is insignificant...

I think I figured it out:
1) Boil water
2) Pour boiling water over coffee in a pot.
3) Make tea from the rest
The only thing is, where do you get a machine that can do this? Also,
it should be able to follow sane standards like htcpcp...

Well, certainly, yes. I'd much rather NOT have
intentionally-relevantized bad news that is particularly aspected
towards myself generated merely as a construct to enable the
transportation to me of a radio broadcast.

Surely the speed of the cassette would be different from the
bad-news-relevance-reference-frame of the observer? In that anyone
that the news is relevantly bad for would see the cassette travel at
an accelerated pace, but I, being a person to whom the relevance of
the bad news is approaching zero, would see the cassette move at a
speed appropriate to the propagation of non-bad news.

The Sirius Cybernetics Corporation, obviously makes a machine that

a similar effect for freshly boiled water.
