I have been a HHGttG fan for 25 years and I absolutely LOVED the movie!
I was surprised and happy at some of the directions the movie took and
realized by the end that probably some of the reasons behind some of the
side-tracks was to draw out the story so it would fill the 2 hours and end
right before the events of "The Restaurant At The End Of The Universe".
I liked how everything came together at the end and am praying to Zarquon
that they do four more movies!
To the "fans" that are unhappy with the movie, I have to ask "what were you
expecting?" The series? If so, watch the series.
I am happy with the changes. Every incarnation of the story has been changed
from the one that proceeded it, so it was natural that the movie be
different from the Books, just as the Books were different from the TV
Series, just as the TV Series was different from the Radio Series.
I thought the opening song "So Long And Thanks For All The Fish", while
cute, set the film off on the wrong tone. For fans who understand the
meaning it was cute, but for Hitchhiker virgins I think it gave the
impression that they were about to see a musical, and that turns some people
off.
The new Marvin worked for me, the new Heart Of Gold was a pretty nice
looking ship, Mos Def played Ford just off-kilter enough to be disconcerting
but likable, Sam Rockwell really seemed to have fun being Zaphod's 2 heads
(I knew "Guy" from Galaxy Quest was bound for bigger and better things!),
the new character of Humma Kavula (John Malkovich) was interesting and the
side-story involving him is nowhere near being finished so a sequel is
inevitable.
Just my 2 Altarian Dollars.

According to an article I read, two sequls are pkanned but are
entirely dependant on box office success of the first.

In the two thousand and fifth year of Bob, Gusty's voice said the following,
in wonderful perfect quadrophonic sound with distortion levels so low as to
make a man weep:

That's what I heard, too. Sequels would be quite cool.

I have to say I agree pretty much 100% with the above, so thanks for
saving me the bother of writing it! :-)

I want them to at least make up to Life the Universe and Everything.
Simply because I wanna see the Krikit Robots in action.

Is there a reason to not believe that all five books will eventually
become movies?
I'm sorry, I may be a tad bit daft (or slightly French), but the
impression the end of the movie gave me was that "Audience, what you
have just seen is good. I see you enjoyed it. Oh! How rude of me; would
you like seconds?"
Or something to that effect.
