Audioslave singer and songwriter Chris Cornell has made the theme song
of the upcoming James Bond movie Casino Royale.

"I have written the new Bond theme song and I will perform it too",
Cornell confessed to IS.

Production company hasn=B4t revealed yet the composer of the theme song,
but Cornell revealed the thing for the first time while being
interviewed by Ilta-Sanomat.

- I haven=B4t seen the new Bond fully, because it is still being edited,
but I have seen several clips of it. Absolutely amazing movie. Very
different than earlier Bonds, said Cornell enthusiastically [sic].

Songs written by Chris Cornell have been heard during the years in
several blockbusters as in Singles, Collateral Damage, Great
Expectations and True Romance.

Casino Royale premieres in the US in November. Casino Royale is the
21st Bond movie, and it presents as a new James Bond British actor
Daniel Craig.

I'm not sure I buy this, but then again I thought Goldfrapp might be
likely candidates. We shall see.

As for Cornell, well, he's got quite some range and is a powerful
singer, which is no bad thing, but outside of the band / collaborative
context he's worked in for most of his career and with David Arnold's
input, it's almost impossible to imagine what the results would be if
it did happen.

I'm almost embarrassed to ask, because I should know this, but which
was the Soundgarden video which paid very heavy tribute to Binder's
title sequences?

Best

Phil

(In roughly the same genre, I like Mark Lanegan a hell of a lot more as
a singer, but I'm not convinced that either he or Cornell would be
right for a Bond film. Then again, I did once suggest that Page and
Plant in 'Kashmir' mode might provide an interesting take on a Bond
theme, so maybe this would be the modern equivalent.)

Check out the "Euphoria Morning" CD. Might give an indication.

Haven't listened to it in a while, but just dug it out and read the
songwriting credits and was interested to note that fully half the
tracks are credited to Cornell alone. I had kind of thought of him as
a frontman in the Rod Stewart mould - when Stewart was good, I hasten
to add - a great interpretative singer who didn't originate many of the
ideas rather than a singer-songwriter, but glancing at that it seems I
might be wrong. I'll listen to it again.

Cornell is a writer, drummer, and guitarist and wrote
a good deal of the final two Soundgarden albums, and
his influence is pretty freaking obvious to notice in
Audioslave. The light songs are his.

He's also becoming an amusing cliche, and this is
another step in the process.

I posted a message on David Arnold's official forum asking him about
this story:

"I will give the usual boring answer which is that Sony and Eon will
make an announcement shortly. There are always rumours and as I have
said before dont believe anything unless its an official press
release."
