I just finished re-reading Casino Royal and I have to say I didn't
remember how involved it was.
I have one question. During the casino sequence, Bond overhears a
croupier say something in French and wonders if it's a herald of doom
for either himself or the bad guy.
Anybody here know what was said? My French and my familiarity with
casino references are both non-existant! (sp)

--- It would be nice to pinpoint exactly where it was said in the book,
chapter or page number?

You must be thinking of this line from the start of chapter 13:
"Neuf. Le rouge gagne, impair et manque."
It is simply the croupier at the roulette saying:
"Nine. Red wins, Odd and Low." Referring to who wins the differents
bets available on the roulette table.
The " Red" who " wins" is, of course, an allusion to the Soviets. If
they win does that spell doom for Bond or Le Chiffre?
