How was "troll" used in Star Trek?

Sorry, it was an obscure joke; a cross-thread reference. Elsewhere I had
commented on my dismay on discovering that there was a Wikipaedia
article on "warp speed" whose author seemed to think that that term had
never appeared in science fiction until _Star Trek_ started using it.

Please note the changed e-mail and web addresses. The domain
eepjm.newcastle.edu.au no longer exists, and I can no longer
reliably receive mail at my newcastle.edu.au addresses.
The optusnet address still has about 2 months of life left.

Had it? The OED cites it back to a _Star Trek_ novel from 1977 and
then to the first Star Trek movie in 1979. "Warp factor" is also
cited back to _Star Trek_ (the first series, in this case, in 1968).
"Warp" itself (and "space warp") go back quite a bit further, of
course.

The first hit (sort of) in the _LA Times_ is from 1974, but it, too,
is Star Trek-related:

[Arthur Rubin] watches Star Trek. But not like most fans.
"... Their time warp speeds do not seem to be related to any
speeds relative to the normal state." [5/13/1974]

That's the only hit before 1980 ads inviting you to send in candy
wrappers for "the official STAR TREK Action Fleet".
