Me, I blame easy credit. And a delibereately depressed Yuan, or however
it's spelled. And the men in the black helicopters, too.

Blame the Federal Reserve and their double-bedamned fiat money Ponzi scheme.

Did you come by the gold standard kookyness when you got religion, or
is it a separate disease?
Money was never more than an abstraction, anyway, and it was foolish to
allow the supply of it to be limited by an arbitrary concrete representation
of that abstraction, such as a precious metal.

The Yuan has nothing to do with it. This is old news, and it's been
going on for a long time. Me, I blame the cheap credit addiction of
USAnian business, _and_ us Europeans for letting them get away with it.
High time we made them pay the full buck.

Yes, right after you are done repaying your debts incurred during and after
WW2...which England has nearly done, by the way. Last payment is scheduled
very soon, as I recall.

Is this the one where they don't levy taxes to cover government
spending, also don't just print more banknotes, but they /pretend/ like
they did??
> Joss Whedon is my Master; Alyson Hannigan is my Ideal Woman
That's very Freudian, tell me more about your parents...
Incidentally, from hearing a BBC World Service half-hour show about
Philip K. Dick, I've moved you lower on my list of Crazy People I Am
Aware Of. The show included half-robotic readings from _Valis_, and
for added effect was recorded on a rather poor cassette tape through
indifferent digital radio reception, MPEG 2 I think. It was like the
old days...
There also are a couple of guys on group talk.origins who apparently
believe that earthquakes and oceans and such can be explained by an
unorthodox theory that the planet is gradually expanding all over.
Since at least one of their theories involves dark matter, it's a bit
of a stretch.

The CD version of Hitch-hiker, whilst excellent, somehow didn't feel right.
It was as if there was some busy-busy feeling in the radio version, some
sense that there was always, always, *always* something happening so that
you couldn't possibly keep up with the realworldness of it, and the CD
version felt flat by comparison.
Finally I figured out the problem - no static.

It would have to be, or there wouldn't be any expansion.
Anyway, the reason for the earthquakes, at least, is obvious enough - if you
grow a ball, something has to give. The surface is bound to break up, at
least a little and probably a lot, even if you have ("dark") matter
constantly being teleported in to the centre, or however these guys are
managing to arrange its incorporation into the planet's structure. (Do they
have a licence for that?)
And if you don't think that this inevitability of breakage is obvious, talk
to a topologist, who will be only too happy to tell you that it /can't/
expand smoothly (for much the same reason that a magnetic bottle is bound
to leak, and hair has to have at least one parting). Just make sure you
keep him away from the coffee and doughnuts.

It's the one where the government is a band of counterfeiters.

The first is a stolen cartoon caption. Mama didn't have red hair.

When it comes to barking mad, PKD definitely makes me look like an amateur.

*Everything* is gradually expanding all over, since space is expanding.
"Dark" matter is not dark and it's not matter.
Of course it's a stretch, since *everything* is gradually expanding all
over, since space is expanding.
Perhaps some wise soul will tell space to eat more salad and lay off the
Twinkies.

Oh, if you want to go back that far, third-year-boys... let's not do the
maths, shall we? Including the damage the "debt repayment" after the
_previous_ Great Unpleasantness did... and then there's the money you
still owe the world for the Great Crash.
