I read the news today, oh boy,
All kinds of fluff and meta-threads again
And though the posts were rather sad
Well I just had to laugh
It was either that or barf
We blow our minds out in a thread
We never notice that the topic's changed
A crowd of people sit and read
They've seen it all before
But nobody is really sure
If today they might see something new...
I saw a post today, oh boy,
The afp in-crowd had just won the war
A crowd of lurkers turned away
But I just had to see
Having read the RFC...
Woke up, got out of bed
Found another monster thread
Lots of fighting about nothing much,
A bit of common sense from someone Dutch,
Americans wond'ring 'bout their pints of beer
Or pretending that soon they won't be here,
But everybody knows they're hooked,
And somebody looked at a spider for a scream
I read the news today oh boy
Four thousand trolls in afp today
And though their posts were rather small
I had to read them all
Now I know how many posts it takes
To fill the Wizards' Hall.
I'd love to have the time...

After this line, I read this to the tune of an old U2 song. You missed
the chorus, though. I'm guessing it should go something like this:
||||Afpee, bloody afpee||||
Good stuff, though. Reminds me I ought to dig out the "Some things you
can't leave behind" CD - I've never listened properly to that.

Let me guess: "I can't believe the news today, Oh I can't close my eyes and
make it go away... How long, how long must we sing this song?"
But if that tune fits what I wrote, I'd be astounded.

Claiming that there's so many trolls on afp is going to make people wonder
whether you see /them/ as a troll. But that was perhaps the intended
meaning of your... troll?

Funny, when I went back and re-played mine, this bit went something like...
I read the news today oh boy,
Four thousand afpers in a meet today,
Richard came with alot of pounds
And offered to pay our rounds
