| Discworld movie cast [message #288096] |

Hi All,
As you know I've only been subscribing about a week, so this subject has
probably come up before - many times. The below would be my ideal cast
for a Discworld movie (should one ever be made):
Granny Weatherwax - Maggie Smith (imperious and totally incapable of
envisaging anyone not doing as she commands)
Nanny Ogg - Patsy Byrne (perverted and batty - aka Nursie in Blackadder)
Magrat Garlick - Hatty Hayridge / Jane Horrocks (just plain batty)
Vimes - Rutger Hauer (muscular, commanding, hates being gentry, wants to
be one of the lads again) - Think "King Bogg" in Lexx
Carrot - Brendan Fraser (muscular, thick)
Angua - Miranda Otto (Eowyn - nuff said :)) [1]
Colon - Bob Hoskins (out of shape - looks like a career sergeant)
Nobby - Tony Robinson / Andy Serkis (do I need to explain? :))
Cheery Littlebottom - Dawn French - think about it ;)
Detritus - has to be CGI - unless..... Ron Perlman (suitably resized of
course - ample ability to look thick as .. well... Detritus)
Dr Downey - Johnny Depp (cool, sophisticated, deranged)
The Patrician - Nicholas Grace / Alan Rickman[2] / Gary Oldman
(commanding, mad as a badger)
Death - I would have said Lurch from the Addams Family only Ted
Cassidy died in 1979 (but as Reg Shoe would say 'dying is not the barrier
to a productive life that it used to be') So it'll have to be Carel
Struycken (Mr Homm - Star Trek - http://www.carelstruycken.com/ )[3]
Susan Sto Helit - Christina Ricci / Kate Beckinsale / Angelina Jolie (like
her grandfather but female and human)
I'd hate to be paying that cast ;)
Any other suggestions? :)
Kind regards,
Julian
[1] Maybe Christina Ricci with the blonde look she had in Sleepy Hollow?
[2] Possibly Vimes?
[3] Having heard Christopher Lee as the voice of Death in the animated
cartoons I'm warming to the idea of him :)

Many, many, many times 8-). I like your suggestions, but I'm
afraid some of them have been made before (which just shows
how good they are; great minds and all that). Check out

Incidentally, there *is* a Discworld movie being made. Full
cast hereabouts:

As others have said, yes it has been done before. However, I don't think
I've seen this one suggested before...

You know what? I like it!
A bit of LOTR resizing, a beard and a leather skirt. Perfect. She can do the
'nobody takes me seriously as a woman so I'll fit in with the blokes' bit
too.

you call that a movie? Is it even a TVM? (TV Movie), what is the
definition of a movie?
I would call that production to be either a 2 part series, or a mini
series depending on which side of the water you live on (hey that
covers everyone then...I think).
But a movie? I go to the movies to watch a movie. That movie can
sometimes be called a film. Now if Wee Free Men 'happens' then that
will be a movie.

I'd forgotten it was in two parts. But, yes, I call TVMs
movies.

I only go to the clicks if there's something I *really* want
to see (and sometimes not even then, I've been *meaning* to
see X-Men 3 since it was released...), so as far as I'm
concerned almost *all* movies are TV movies...
