Having mentioned Dorothy Fontana in another post here, I did a web search on
her for no obvious reason really and was astonished to discover that she'll
be writing an episode for fan production Star Trek New Voyages- and even
more incredibly Walter Koenig is going to be reprising his role as Chekov.
More here-

I think this is quite exciting really. They've done pretty well so far for a
fan prod, but so far not managed something really professional. The script
of the second one, in particular, was so heavily laden with fannish
references to past episodes that it virtually collapsed under the weight.
Clearly tho, if anybody can write them a truly TOS script, it's D.C.
Fontana. Let's hope Koenig gets more than 2 minutes screen time like most of
the other cameos, who obviously could only spare an hour or two for filming-
though having said that, William Windom's cameo in the last one was by far
the high point.
Presumably they'll do something like framing the story with old Chekov
looking back or something. Anyway, will be interesting to see.
Also funny, have just read that the Sulu Scope on the In A Mirror Darkly
Defiant was borrowed from New Voyages. Heh.
And I can't help but feel that there's an enormous appetite out there for
more TOS- whether it's fan prods like this, or the fact that Enterprise
suddenly becomes an Event once they include something from the TOS era. It's
time Paramount realised.
