Double-O-Six Degrees: Old game resurrection attempt [message #283910] Sa, 17 Juni 2006 02:58
Mike Vincitore
A few years back some AFJB regulars (as many of you remember I was one at
the time) amused ourselves for a short while by playing "Six Degrees To A
Bond Film", as a response to the "Six Degrees Of Kevin Bacon" fad.

This one popped into my head unbidden this morning after seeing him on an
old Celebrity Poker rerun...

Ben Affleck.

Affleck - Walken via 'Gigli'. Does it get any quicker? :-) In fact
I'm starting to think the original game should be renamed after Walken
rather than Bacon.

Also via Minnie Driver in GOOD WILL HUNTING. Michael Byrne had
a nice role in SUM OF ALL FEARS. Probably more if one cheats.

Both pretty good but I was thinking of this slightly premature solution:

Ben Affleck was in THE SUM OF ALL FEARS with
Ciaran Hinds who was in MUNICH with Daniel Craig.

She was a presenter at the 1999 MTV Video Music Awards. And so was
Rebecca Romijn-Stamos, who appeared in all three X-Men movies with
Halle Berry who was in DIE ANOTHER DAY.

Well, since he appears to have only TV films to his credit, I guess all's
fair and I get to use TV to beat you.....

Tom Wopat was in "Lost Causes", an episode of the TV series 100 CENTRE
STREET.

This episode also features the late Richard Bright
(whom incidentally some of us may remember as Al Neri of the GODFATHER
trilogy)
as Eric the Lawyer.

Mr Bright also appeared in THE REF with Kevin Spacey;
and as we all know Mr Spacey nabbed an Oscar for his performance in THE
USUAL SUSPECTS
alongside Benicio Del Toro (LTK).

BTW Shadow, thanks for the memories, loved the Chicago pic. Almost didn't
recognize myself.

Did you do this from memory? Most impressive. If, however, you've used the

That's an easy one, Shadow! [And no, Mac, I'm not using IMDB to
cheat... :) ] She was in the Schwarzenegger flick THE RUNNING MAN
along with the actor who played Mr. Big in LIVE AND LET DIE (although
his name escapes me at the moment).

Okay, my turn. Here's one: Bea Arthur. And yes, she does have a
Bond connection in six or fewer degrees of separation! Anyone care to
take a guess?

Bea Arthur co-starred with Bill Macy in Maude.
Bill Macy co-starred in the underrated movie Serial with Christopher
Lee.
Christopher Lee was in Man with the Golden Gun.

Alright... not the connection I was thinking of, but I'll accept this
as a win. Same with Mac's response, too! The connection I was
thinking of was... she appeared in the God-awful 1978 Star Wars
Christmas Special on tv. And Harrison Ford also appeared in this

Not sure about the others but Christopher Reeve starred in "Somewhere In

I leave the other 2 for someone else with far greater knowledge than I.

Kryptonite for this fan's brain, certainly. I could manage Christopher
Reeve in a few steps (alternative route to the one suggested earlier:
'Deathtrap' - Michael Caine - 'The Man Who Would Be King'), but Reeves
and Routh - well, I take my hat off to anybody who could do those
without IMDBing.

It's pretty easy to connect all four of the SUPERMAN films individually
(and directly) as they all share at least one cast member with a Bond film.

You can connect SUPERMAN with George Reeves through Noel Neill's
cameo. Reeves was also in GONE WITH THE WIND (one of his credits
I do remember!), and I'm certain you can link any of the four leading
actors in GONE WITH THE WIND indirectly to a Bond.

Dammit, I didn't know that Reeves was in 'Gone with the Wind': that
would have solved a lot of problems.

I'm starting to think that as many as *six* degrees for to get from any
one actor to another is way too generous. If you can't connect two
'name' actors in four stages or fewer you're not even trying :-)

That's kind of ironic for a profession with an unemployment rate
estimated as being between 80% and 90%...

It would be possible to link SUPERMAN and SUPERMAN RETURNS (and
Routh by association) with just about anything using Marlon Brando.

I found it kind of interesting the Marlon Brando appears in "Superman
returns." And so does Eva Marie Saint, who made her first appearance in
films almost 60 years ago in "On the Waterfront" with... Brando.

George Reeves was in From Here to Eternity with Burt Lancaster.
Burt Lancaster was in Field of Dreams with Kevin Costner.
Kevin Costner was in Silverado with John Cleese.
John Cleese is Q (well, maybe WAS Q.)

Chris Reeve was in Deathtrap with Michael Caine.
Michael Caine was in Bullseye with Roger Moore.
Roger Moore was Bond a couple of times.

Brandon Routh appeared with Marlon Brando's ghost in Superman Returns.
Marlon Brando was in The Formula with George C. Scott.
George C. Scott was in Dr. Strangelove with Peter Sellers.
Peter Sellers was Bond in Casino Royale...

OK, that's not fair...

Brandon Routh was in Superman Returns with Noel Neill.
Noel Neill was in Superman (1978) with Gene Hackman.
Gene Hackman was in A Bridge Too Far with Sean Connery.

Went to see that film tonight and I got to say that it was very well
done, on par with the first two Superman films.

Kevin Spacey was well worth the price of admission.

Why not just say Brando was in ON THE WATERFRONT with
Karl Malden who was in METEOR with Connery?

As I said, Brando makes it easy.

Or, dropping Brando, Kevin Spacey was in OUTBREAK with
Hoffman who was in FAMILY BUSINESS with Connery.

If I might suggest a new twist on this game to make it a real "006-degrees"
game? How about linking two actors using ONLY actors who have appeared in
Bond films?

I vote for number 6. Love that Bond film!

"That gun, it looks more fitting for a woman."
"Do you know a lot about guns, Mr. Bond?"
"No, but I know INDEPENDENCE DAY has plot holes bigger than the gap

LMAO! The dialog between SniperGuy and Miss Weather Front is good
enough to have been in a Roger 007 film! I hereby present you with
the Christopher Wood Golden Pidgeon Award for outstanding achievement
in sexual innuendo writing. And I've no doubt that after ZERO
WINDCHILL 3 you will receive the Tom Mankiewicz Lifetime Achievement
Award in the same category.

Moore-era detractors must admit this is truly a clever line, no?]

Not even Caroline Munro refers to STARCRASH as such.
