Anyone checked it out yet? I was surfing through it yesterday and it does
have some cool background on Bond, including much info on his career before
his tenure as a "00" agent. Check it out....

Some very fine stuff there indeed - I think it's an excellent job
overall. Incidentally, a few people I've been in touch with have had
trouble accessing the site via the page listed above: if that's the
case, try this instead and see whether it works:

http://sonypictures.com/movies/casinoroyale/site/flash.html

Bond's background has been updated well and credibly for the current
decade, and it's good to see Oberhauser and Molony (among others)
namechecked, even if the site alters the spelling of the latter's name.

Surprised to see Urbano Barberini from, amongst others, Lamberto Bava's
DEMONI and Argento's OPERA in the complete cast! Like spotting Bob
Kerman in SPIDERMAN!

I'm not an expert on computer graphics or technology, but neither do I think
that I am easily impressed.

That is a kick-ass web-site.

The more I see and learn about "Casino Royale", the more I think it will be
a kick-ass film.

Graphics and technology I don't know from zip either, but what
impresses me about the site is the content, which is as it should be.

AFAIC, so far, so good - and however the movie itself turns out, I'm
increasingly convinced that EON are onto a good thing in the long term.
The easiest things to do in '69, '81, and '87 would have been to
replicate or even expand upon what had gone before, and however OHMSS,
FYEO, and TLD did at the box office at the time, they seem to me to
have ensured the survival of Bond as a viable character in future
years. Fleming knew when to start pulling back and making Bond a more
down-to-earth character in slightly more realistic adventures, and CR
seems to be an attempt to do just that, without completely abandoning
the spectacle and glamour which is so much a part of the Bond universe.
If CR measures up to any of the movies mentioned above I'll be happy,
and I think it's got a good chance of doing so.

Yes. Lots to be entertained by there and help dispel a few doubts I
had about how much fun CR will be in Nov.

-Read through Bond's retroed dossier and have to admit that I found it
a bit jarring at first...Bond was born in '68 ...in Germany...etc .by
the end of his bio updates I let it sink in for a few and came around.
I was impressed with the way theysuccesfully updated Fleming's original
portrait. It seem a lot like the way he might do it.

-Anyone else notice that the spinning object used while the page loads
matches the
medalion Vesper is wearing on her necklace in some of the publicty
photos ?

http://www.evagreenweb.com/gallery/albums/albums/movies/casi no_royale/on-set_karlovy-vary_czech-republic_may-17-2006/kva _bond_001.jpg

Sort of reminds me of the "whisper of love whisper of hate" centerpiece
on the Cape CR first edition. Not sure though.

-The entrance music sounds like a new and pure gunbarrel version
reaching out to grab at you. Just like its always does.

-Does the background music sound a bit like "cues" from the Thunderball
soundtrack. Almost like a few seconds of Cafe Martinique. I wonder?

-And let me not forget. Did anyone else learn how to play "Hold 'em
Poker" on the site? Lots of fun and thanks to them for staring me out
with a large bank. Sad to see Baccarat go but IMO hold'em seems to
have a bit more meat. More interesting a game to dramatize and film.

Matt

I enjoyed that information, too. I think they did a pretty good job in
attempting to update Bond a bit for the new movie. I thoroughly enjoyed
reading about his background and experience leading up to his promotion as a
"00" agent.

Although your deleted remark was phrased indelicately, it did indeed
have a place. However (as previous posts indicate) this group often
acts like an exclusive club; you have to be established, or play the
right game at the right time. Note that other off-colour remarks have
not been deleted because they were posted by "members".

If the question was sincerely posted then I missed that intent. This NG has
been over-run with trolls at times and the post certainly seemed to fall
into troll-like territory.

I think this NG is (and always has been) more than welcoming of new posters
and new perspectives. All in the context of a cyber cocktail party. Great
conversation, a bit of wit, and sometimes indeed, ribald comments. Fools
and intentional trolls are not tolerated well however.

No "club" here, just some posters who have grown to know each other a bit
over 5-10 years. Bottom line, if the question was sincere and I plonked a
bit too early I'm perfectly willing to undo that step. I've done it before.

Sincerely,
Tom Zielinski

Actually, Tom, you apologized too quickly. Plonk the newbies means

I can take a joke as well as the next guy.

FWIW, although "indelicate", my tacky remark had one thing going for it that
might have sounded a "maybe not a troll after all" alarm bell: knowledge of

You *do* know that remaining in the group is provisional on an exam at
the end of your first three months, don't you?

You can, if you wish, refer to the following questions, which have been
excerpted from a past paper:

1. Have you plonked or been plonked by anybody whose one-time username
bears some resemblance to the implement used to assassinate Leon
Trotsky?

2. Construe, using one side of the paper only:
(a) 'Vince!'
(b) 'Amazing!'

3. Was Timothy Dalton:
(a) the finest actor ever to play Bond, whose only fault was to be
hamstrung by poor production values and scripting?
(b) the finest actor ever to play Bond, who by dint of his astonishing
talent made the two greatest movies in the EON series despite the
obstacles presented by their poor production values and scripting?
(NB Do not attempt this question unless you are certain that Dr Glyn
(Professor Emeritus) or Mr Gerrard will be marking your paper.)

4. Have you ever heard or used the following phrase as part of a
sentence: '...but as soon as the film moves to Iceland...'?

5. Have you ever knowingly 'encouraged' Tim Pollard despite repeated
warnings from long-term afjb posters not to do so?

6. Have you ever apologised publically for a post you made after having
had one drink too many?

7. Have you ever rewatched MR after a thoroughly persuasive and witty
post from Mike Feeney?

8. How wretched did you feel afterwards?

9. Did he convince you to give it yet another try only a few months
later?

10. Did you get *any* of the above in-jokes? (NB 100% of total marks
awarded are for the correct answer to this question.)

Best

Phil

I refuse to answer on the grounds of stupi...I mean, ignorance. So, prolly
not.

Seldom.

He's been growing on me. I like his other work very much.

Cripes, you know me.

His poasts have not motvated me to watch MR. I admit to watching it on my
own, despite the lack of acting ability by Lois.

Not months. Years.

I can't go for the gold on that one. 'Specially since I don't know what NB
means.

Alright. It's official. I have spent too much time here.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I think I'll go check out Moonraker once
more...you know, just in case Feeney's right.

Sorry about this post, by the way...I had too much to drink.

<<plonk>>

Amazing!
