I don't think it's just me ?
maybe you guys have had similar reactions/feelings ?
I watch guys like Zappa, steve vai etc etc and and just AMAZED
at the level of their musicanship.
I don't understand how so many kids/punks go for this talentless rap
music, where often the artist will grab his crotch at least 5 times
during a 1 min video......is that shit suppose to be cool ????
worse yet these talentless fools who do knowing more then make silly
ass rhymes make millions and millions of dollars while a virtuoso like
Vai who's devote countless hours to practice mearly earns a
comfortable living in comparison.

That's just common logic: The lower common denominator (?) the larger the
following.
On a lighter note, from another ng:
My wife says:
You've spent thousands-upon-thousands of dollars on equipment;
You practice hundreds-upon-hundreds of hours;
.... and you make tens-upon-tens of dollars.

[You meant 'nothing' more, right?]
I couldn't begin to remember who it was but a few
years ago I heard a hot-at-the-time rapper say that
he and his colleagues in rap-writing were BETTER
than the old-time Tin Pan Alley songwriters because
they used MORE words.

As you should be. It is amazing.

Rap music is not talentless. It does require talent to both write and
perform rap songs. The talent is limited and focused in an entirely
different area, though.
Society is very superficial and people will often not listen to songs
that do not contain vocals with lyrics that they can relate to or be
entertained by. Rap is a distillation of that. All rap really is is
disco music with an angry black man bitching over it in iambic
pentameter and we all know how much talent it took to create disco
music.
That being said, some old school rap artists like Public Enemy and BDP
actually *had* talent, but even then, the talent involved had to do
with word selection and the mixing and editing of prerecorded music.
Queen Latifah has even proven that she can sing and act, so not all
rappers are talentless hacks.
To answer your question, though, yes, it is supposed to be cool and
whole bunch of guys (and even some women) between 10 and 30 years of
age think that it is. Weird, huh?

Many of these morons are popular today due to this "dangerous"
gansta-type image rather than any level of talent that they may have.
It's basically marketing.
Most people just don't listen to music. They don't appreciate it.
If you look at Vai's career, his greatest commercial (i.e.
money-making) successes probably came during his stints with David Lee
Roth and Whitesnake. Yet, Motley Crue and Poison were outselling those
guys. Are Mick Mars or C.C. DeVille more talented than Mr. Vai? I
THINK NOT!
This is nothing new. Virtuosos are never appreciated.
Trivia question for you: Which has sold more copies? Miles Davis'
Bitches Brew or The Monkee's first album?
Oh, and one more thing. Rappers thrive on the fact that what they do
pisses guys like you off. I prefer to laugh at them. That pisses
*them* off.

Oh, and one more one more thing. What makes you think that the rappers
are getting those millions of dollars? The bizarre accounting
practices that Mr. Zappa once spoke of are not extinct.

The peoples are not enough educate to understand how FZ's music is
beautyful and they need the guy on the commercial radio to tell them
what listening because they want to be on the winner team.
