did you see Steve Vai shaking like he was standing on the 3rd rail ?
It brought the sold out crowd to its feet ROARING their approval.
Terry Bozzio also just kiecked the Crap outta
Trying to grow a chin.
Dweezil surpised me in that he was able to stay with Vai for several
moments here and there..

Sheila Gonzalez was totally hooking me up all night: she pretty much
danced any time she wasn't playing, and sometimes when she WAS playing.
Very infectious enthusiasm and grooving, and her playing and vocals and
personality added a very nice timbre to the occasion. From my
high-and-to-stage-left seats I could see the stage right back/sidestage
and there was another lady dancing her ass off back there for pretty
much all of the second set. From the NYTimes article, that may have
been Diva.

Very enjoyable show, highlights for me were Black Page 1 & 2, Echinda's
Arf and a really spiffing Father O'Blivion. I also enjoyed the hell
out of the two drummers on Trouble Every Day, doing The Big Fill. The
first set felt somewhat workmanlike in comparison to the second set;
after Bozzio and Vai came out I thought the enthusiasm of both the band
and the audience really raised the bar.

Sound from my seat was not very good, with Dweezil's guitar largely
being muddy/bassy and nearly inaudible much of the time, which was
quite a drag. Particular nods to the bass player and keyboard/trumpet
player (would have liked to hear more than one solo from main keyboard
player, for sure). Joe was Joe, meaning that he delivered with aplomb.
I've read of slow tempos on Inca Roads, but I thought it was pretty
sprightly, and Dweezil's solo impactful (though a number of his solos,
and I think ALL of Steve Vais, had "I'm Squirting Now!!!" endings).

I really enjoyed the way they used the instrumentation that was
available in a variety of combinations. I felt like this particular
ensemble had the timbres available to do damned near any tune in the
catalog, which made the lack of post-Shiek Yerbouti material notable (I
think I'm right about that chronological cutoff). Not going to
complain about lack of and/or missing tunes in a 3.5 hour show,
though!!!

Lerch,
who gives not a fuck about official ZPZ endorsements of touring
ensembes or the lack thereof. Long live the music of FZ, period.

Vorheriges Thema:"This is a surreal experience!" That's no understatement, coming from a man named Dweezil.
