OK It's not like me to complain... but... I like reading the books and
I've now got all of them that have been published in paperback! I don't
read hardback books because basically I find them to betoo big and
heavy and awkward to read (IMO) and also don't fit on my shelf! So what
is bugging me is that I want to buy Legacy of the Force: Betrayal,
which I found out isn't due out in the UK until May next year! It's
annoying me because books two and three care due out later this year.
Now I know that I could probably borrow it from the library blah blah
blah but does anybody else think that it is bad marketing?? Surely
there are others like me who prefer the small paperbacks? I can only
assume that they are trying to force more people to buy the hardbacks
because they are more expensive.
Thoughts anyone?

Are you sure they're not all the same format (ie. all hardbacks) and
you're not confusing the US and UK release dates??
It sounds very strange and I don't know that any of the other Star Wars
novels have ever done this, or any other series I read.
If you are right there is nothing to stop you buying books 2 and 3, not
reading them, buying book 1 when it gets released and THEN reading all
three. I've bought all the paperbacks so far as well, but I've only
read about eight or ten of them ... I simply have too much other stuff
to read and I wanted to read them in timeline order (which won't happen
if they keep jumping around). :-\

Well according to theforce.net, Betrayal isn't due out in mass-market
paperback until May 2007 (so I guess you're right that is the US date.
Although the US tends to get the books a few weeks/months before the
UK).
Oh well I guess I'll just have to wait and see... The paperback for
Betrayal still doesn't show on Amazon (UK), which makes me think I
could be waiting some time... :-(
I've now run out of books to read having just finished Dark Lord: The
Rise of Darth Vader... good read I thought!
P.S. Good luck trying to read them in order! I tried that when I
started reading them about 4 years ago... never gonna happen!

Indeed it won't happen and it's not even the best reading experience to read
them in timeline order. (e.g. reading the Crispin Solo trilogy before
reading any of the books published before it is like attending someone
else's high school reunion.) The books build on top of what's been invented
in the franchise before, and that goes in publishing order - much like the
movies.

Plus you would have to include all the comics, kid's novels, spin-off
movies and TV shows, games, etc. since some information jumps from one
media to the other.
At some stage Star Wars books will stop being made and so theoretically
they could be read in timeline order (assuming I'm still alive by
then).
