The Letters of Evelyn Waugh [message #278494] So, 04 Juni 2006 07:43

I spent Memorial weekend in Coshocton, Ohio with my in-laws visiting my
wife's 85 year old grandmother. While there, we paid a visit to a
local flea market of sorts and I scored a hardback copy of "The Letters
of Evelyn Waugh"...for just $3! For those of you wondering what in the
world this has to do with 007, Waugh was a prominent figure in Ann
Fleming's circle. I only knew of this collection from Andrew Lycett's
citations in his biography of Ian Fleming, and I'm quite excited to get
to read the few letters written to and by Ian Fleming that were
included in this volume. I'd tell my friends and family about this,
but you guys are really the only ones who'll get it.

But both Waugh and Fleming are now a handful of dust...

Not a scoop, a handful.

And it was intended as a literate pun. You see, Waugh wrote, among
other things, a book called, "A Handful of Dust". Oh, nevermind.

Judi Dench was in the screen adaptation. And Daniel Craig was the star
of the adaptation of Waugh's SWORD OF HONOUR!

"James Bond. You appear with the tedious inevitability
of John McTiernan directing the next five (at least)
seasons of PRISON BREAK."
